And here we have the typical selfish attitude responsible for 90% of the roads hoon and bad driving problems. :-\

Then explain how it is safer? when coming around a blind bend at say 90km/h and encounter a car in front of you only doing 60km/h. Again explain how this is safer under your premise, travelling along SH1 and you get behind a car doing 60km/h, unable to pass but constantly having to flash your brakes to slow approaching vehicles behind you so you don't get tail ended by a car travelling 100km/h.

I feel your pain. I have to say I have seen so many drivers ignoring a reasonable speed and sticking to 60kph on an open road. Its frustrating and dangerous. Maybe making certain age groups resit their test should be compulsary. Actually that comment sounds ageist and I'm indicating it is our older generation driving like nana's on the road, but most of the one's I see are quite old!

There is a retest requirement at 75 if your Doctor who must give you medical clearence deems it appropriate. Personally if I feel I am unable to drive safely I will cancel my own licence before that time if needed, which is a loooong way off

I agree with you there...perhaps it should be brought forward. On the other hand, I have a friends dad, age 92 who teaches his friends how to drive for their tests!

You are on an open road driving at the speed limit a car travelling considerably below that at say 60km/h is dangerous and I have been nearly tail ended because of it, are you saying we should all slow to 60k or less on all corners? expanding that, as we are an agricultural country maybe our limit should be 50km/h everywhere a a chicken may decide to see what really is the need to cross the road.

I'm saying if you can't see around a corner and you don't think you could stop in time if there was something going a (relatively) small amount slower than you than maybe you aren't driving to the conditions and you should slow down a little. I'd rather slow down and drive around a blind bend at 60km and not have a problem if there is something unexpected around the corner.

I don't care about killing a chicken, shouldn't do too much damage, but what if it's a herd of cows?

If you come round a blind bend at 90 and cannot see clearly ahead enough to stop safely, you are the one driving without due care and attention not the person doing 60.

Absolutely. Your speed should always be such that you can stop safely in the distance in which you can see in front clearly.

The road code is clear on that: it says that you may drive at any speed below the limit provided that (amongst other things):-

"you can stop in the length of clear lane you can see in front of you on a road with a centre line or lanes."

In a 100hm/h maximum zonedriving at 50 to 60km/h without reason is extremely dangerous. If it is due to fear then stop your car(safely and let someone else drive), if it is due to an issue with the vehicle pull as far to left as posdible , have the hazard lights on and pull off the road when it can be safely done and call a breakdown service.

EXACTLY!! There is common sense and intelligence on these forums after all (I was really beginning to doubt there was) ... of course you'll never convince the selfish "me first" speed freaks and hoons that they're wrong, which is the entire problem in the first place. :-(

Please remind me, how; by driving well below the speed limit holding up traffic then speeding up to 100 k/h on a passing lane, which happens to be the first opportunity for the following cars to pass, thus preventing or making it difficult for those faster vehicles to get past; is in compliance with the road code.
