I agree. I would much rather have a retractable one. But it is better than nothing.

The good thing about this is that someone will probably make a retractable one that can use the fastening for the regular one.

I think it's this review that also mentions the lack of rear cross-traffic alert, which I hadn't thought about; I must say I'd prefer if it had that (as well as blind spot indicators), two features I appreciate in my current car. But it's a Tesla, so they have their own approach and reason behind it, yadda yadda...

 

Many reviews have also pointed out the relatively sedate acceleration of the RWD MY from stand still, but I've also seen it noted acceleration is pretty quick in the 50-100 zone; hope this also applies across 80-110, given this is critical for passing. I found the Ioniq5 LR pretty sedate, so it'll be interesting to see how I find this in comparison; it's still going to be faster than my Mazda6 diesel wagon!

 

In case it's of interest to anyone, I found this FAQ from the NZ Tesla owners Facebook group useful. Most disappointing to my son was finding out we don't get Boombox in NZ!

 

BTW, are there others on GZ who have put an order in for a Y? I know @jarledb and I have, but interested to see if any others have. (I find GZ a more pleasant platform for these kinds of discussions than FB, I must say!)

Yeah, even knowing which way (included or not) would help, because the ability to install the currently available retractable covers may well be impacted by how the Tesla OEM model is fitted. If I knew this, I'd be looking to order this which, at a bit over $80 incl shipping, is weirdly good value compared to others I've seen:

Indications are it'll come with the new 16v lithium battery (eg this source), but it'll be interesting to hear if anyone's confirmed this is the case with the test cars in NZ/AU. (That article also mentions the cargo cover, which as discussed above is a will it/won't it component.)

They'll all have the liion 16v battery its needed for the ryzen cpu system etc

There isn’t a Type2/Type2 (mennekes) cable that some manufacturers supply. But I confirmed with a Tesla Rep at the Auckland showroom that Model Ys (and 3s) will continue to be delivered with a UMC (at this stage).

 

So if your work has dedicated Type 2 AC charge points then you would need to purchase a cable.

Ah yep if your work has type 2 sockets installed then no, you'll have to buy your own cable or borrow one, $300 or so

i meant to plug into 3 pin standard house 240V sockets

 

i have never charged outside of my house 3 pin socket so i have no idea what type a b d z are :(

 

there was once i tried to plug into the local free charger and while the leaf next door was plugged in, my leaf did not have the correct shaped hole for the dongle that was dangling, at least i wasn't able to push the dongle into my hole

 

i gave up after that and only ever charged using 3 pin sockets
