How one of the world's biggest ships jammed the Suez Canal - NZ Herald
Paywalled. What's the tldr on that?
it was bad weather but the captain decided he cannot wait.
when these ships go near a port they are boarded by local "pilots".
these pilots tell the captain what to do but don't do it themselves.
the captain has all responsibility but needs to listen to the pilots.
the 2 egyptian pilots have little training on mega mega ships.
they told the second officer to do really bad things.
the captain could not stand it no longer.
the captain tried to intervene and then the 2 pilots started yelling at each other.
the captain could not get them out of trouble and said F.
also 2 tug boats should follow the ship according to the canal law, but none was following.

BBC News - Ever Given: Cargo ship returns through Suez Canal it blocked
today
The huge container ship that blocked the Suez Canal in March* - disrupting global trade - has passed back through the waterway without incident.
The Ever Given was among a convoy of vessels sailing from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea ...
It had been offloading its cargo in Europe and is now en route to Asia. [video]
* The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) sought compensation for the Ever Given's Japanese owner for the cost of the salvage operation, damage to the canal's banks and other losses.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed but Egypt had eventually settled on a USD $550m demand.
