So even though the 2 big players in Johnsonville (Z & BP) are in very close proximity to Waitomo, they are still charging like a wounded bull. Even BP Johnsonville last night had cars 2 deep during the Wednesday offer of 10c off a litre, still making it more expensive than Waitomo

And that's the crazy thing about petrol prices. People may complain a lot but they're fiercely habitual and many don't care about a better deal and will always visit the same petrol station(s).

Put yourself in the mind of the retailer. Why would you drop your price if there is no need?

kingdragonfly: Perhaps instead of waiting for the proposed EV "freebate" to kick in end of 2021, perhaps I'll look into the already subsidized UK and Japan EV's

The Nissan Note e-Power Hybrid sounded promising until I realized there's no plug-in charging.

If you commute less than 70km a day then even the oldest, crustiest Nissan LEAF will be good enough for 90% of your driving...and cost about $10k or less. Use your petrol car for longer trips or busier days. You'll save a huge amount of your usual petrol spend.....and lower your emissions by 90%, too. The old LEAF would pay for itself in 2-3 years. Plus you'll notice how little servicing they need (and save you more).

Early Leafs have batteries prone to self degradation meaning you'll probably lose range. Nissan changed the battery chemistry some time in 2015 to be more resilient but those later cars with a "lizard battery" cost more. If you want a cheap modest range EV consider a 16kWh I-Miev. It didn't have the same initial range as the Leafs but its battery is so much more reliable the range of a used I-Miev should surpass Leafs in the same price bracket either initially or in the future. You can import a low mileage 16kWh I-Miev into the country for well under $10,000.

All normal imported cars inspected from March of 2020 will require electronic stability control. Base Model I-Mievs meaning those manufactured before 6/7/2011 lack it so they won't be able to be imported. Although the I-Miev is still manufactured the bulk of production was early on so later model years are far more expensive. So the clock is ticking on cheap I-Mievs. See the Japanese wikipedia article for more information about this car (run Google Translate).

I don't think ESC was mandatory in Japan until 2015 so the rule change will affect the import market.

There are also "Minicab" I-Mievs and an Minicab I-Miev minitruck.

There are different variants of the Minicab (some have rear seats), Specifications may only be found on Japanese language websites.

What kind of feebates are cheap used EVs and sub 5L/100km cars going to receive?

'coins' toward your 'spy points' (stat-padder cheats use to use them when all stations changed price at once - they would do as many as they could when they noticed a shift even if they held off for a few hours) The more the value I think the longer it's been since getting an update/confirmed. Like how lime price goes up the further out and longer they are left to collect.

Some points system called Spy Coins. I can't find any explanation of what that actually means though.

There is some concern the current situation in Iraq & Iran may cause another big spike in Oil Prices so this Gull is good timing

News item yesterday had some excessive word on the oil price rise. It was 4%. I was expecting 40% from the way it was titled.

I drove back home to the Hutt from Wellington this morning and noticed quite a few had changed with prices up a few cpl in some the Hutt and some Wellington stations, but it looks like in Petone that only the price of 95 has gone up with 91 still staying low no doubt because of Gull.

Look like Gull Petone opening special has finished but they have settled on $2.02.7 which is still pretty good IMO, comparing to Waitomo who are $2.15.9. I feel for those in Wellington City where they are still paying $2.38
