Insure my tesla / Vero are expensive ish but good cover

AMP are near half the price but dont cover the glass roof as part of the glazing, minimal risk anyhow.

I just signed up to AMP $1150 for a perf.

I’d be interested in seeing if there are any Model 3 owners in my area (Manawatu) who may be ok about giving me a look over (and ideally a drive in/of) their car; while I know it’s not a precise comparison to the Y we’d be looking at getting once orders start, it’ll still give a pretty good approximation of many aspects of the car.

I’m guessing my best bet to find such a generous soul may be via a Facebook group - what particular one would you Tesla drivers recommend?

I'm sure there's a few on the Model 3 Facebook group that would be happy to at least let you have a look.

Just wondering whether SR+ M3 owners think it’s worth paying for the premium connectivity option? And can someone please confirm the current price? Does that then provide unlimited data for all purposes including Netflix etc?

I understand that, even if one elects not to subscribe to this, one can still connect a premium Spotify account and have full control via the car’s screen - does that then just use the phone’s data?

Given the ability to do this, and what I’ve read about the ability to now have the car’s wifi hotspot stay active when in drive, the advantages of having the Tesla premium connectivity seem to be live traffic and satellite maps (plus I guess saving phone data, if using a lot) - or am I missing something? I guess it depends on what that cost is - if it’s $10 a month as I saw noted somewhere, and essentially provides unlimited data, then that’s kinda chump change…

Thanks for any feedback.

Yeah, it's $10 for unlimited data. The only thing the premium connectivity gets you that you can't get with a hotspot is satellite maps and visual traffic data. However, navigation still uses traffic data for routing, you just can't see it

I subscribed to it. $10.99 pm from memory. Unlimited data incl Netflix. Could use my phone but for $10/$11 pm it’s just convenient and always there regardless of who is using the car.

Thanks for your replies - useful to have a good idea as to how this kind of stuff works, especially given how different the tech is compared to other car brands that can mirror one’s phone via AA or Apple Carplay.

Is someone able to confirm if my understanding re Spotify is correct? I understand that, even if one elects not to subscribe to this (Tesla premium sub), one can still connect a premium Spotify account and have full control via the car’s screen - does that then just use the phone’s data?

I've never had a car with CarPlay so I don't have anything to compare the Tesla experience to. When paired with your phone the car will display messages you receive on your phone, but only those received in your default messaging app (on an iPhone that means iMessage or SMS) and you can reply to them using your voice. It can also display playlists from the built in music app (so again on iPhone, that would be Apple Music).

Your understanding of Spotify is correct, you can stream Spotify over your hotspot while driving - you don't lose any app access by not having premium connectivity. Basic navigation works with or without premium connectivity over the cars own 4G connection

Thanks for the further clarifications - really appreciated! While I've been able to confirm other things like playback via other apps (I listen to lots of podcasts via my phone!), I haven't found clear direction on one issue:

It seems like the car's AV system will only connect to one Spotify account, as opposed to having an account per user profile - is that correct?

We have Spotify Family, so everyone has their own account. Is there no way to allow my partner's account to be loaded when she drives, and mine when it's me driving? Or would she just need to stream Bluetooth in a conventional way from her phone, just like audio from any other app not built into the car?

Also disappointed to see that apparently Teslas don't support two devices connected at the same time, one for audio and the other for phone calls, something my eight-year-old Mazda does! Really useful on holiday to let the kids stream from their own devices while mine is still connected for calls.

I'm sure it'll all work out, just a matter of working out how it works!

Prem connectivity is just nice to have, it depends on how much you use the data and what plan you have on your phone etc.

You cant stream Spotify via the cars LTE without it even with a Spotify account.

Its currently $10.99 here a month which isnt bad for no limits streaming etc if you use it

Just spoke to Toyota about a Rav4 Hybrid - apparently looking at Q3/Q4 2022 if we order now.

Suzuki Jimny Petrols are also July 2022.

Anyone know what kind of wait times do Tesla 3 have now?

3 - 9 weeks. Go on website and you can see for yourself.
Add a months buffer to be on the safe side.

You could probably even get a Model Y before the Rav4 is available.

Obraik: You could probably even get a Model Y before the Rav4 is available.

Speaking of which... I managed to get a demo of a local Model 3 via the M3 Facebook group (thanks for sorting that access, Obraik!).

Anyway, the owner of the car I got to check out is pretty convinced that Tesla won't bring in the standard range Y, as per the model options available in the UK.

Also, if the price increases Tesla is slapping on its cars in other markets are made here that's another worry about whether they'll be willing or able to bring the SR Y in at under $80k.

My hope is that, given they already have a SR Y for HK, and that selling a model here that attracts the rebate will massively boost sales, they'll release it here; his argument was demand was already so high they didn't need to go chasing these sales. Hopefully when the next two factories come online it'll free up availability...
