Thanks jonb, found it downloaded it, installed it, enabled it, but when I cut and paste a page from the .pdf manual onto a blank word document to translate, I just get rows of squares.
Must be doing something wrong but not sure what

Bother...or words to that effect. It seems I don't have Japanese Language Pack installed. When I go to buy from Microsoft Office the clever bug#%*s have a drop down list that has the language packs of several Asian languages at the bottom, but as I don't read any of them I don't know which one is Japanese
Windows 8.1 Office 2013 it shouldn't be this hard

Because you can't read Asian characters on your PC, here is how the word "Japanese Language" is written if it helps.

ubernoob: Hi All, I have just bought a new car, well 2006 Japanese import, and it has an inbuilt Stereo/DVD/GPS system. Sanyo Genuine HDD navigation  HS306-A . Unfortunately for me I don't speak or read Japanese does anyone know how to change the language of this?

Yes I know it's a long shot.

option 2  does anyone have a Japanese exchange student, who would be willing to do a bit of translating in the Auckland/Manukau area

Cheers

if the unit has a language setting option it will look like one of these . . .

Japanese electronic devices usually have the English option written in the roman alphabet but if not then the following is English in Kanji (Japanese)

You shouldn't really consider those to be English. They are just standard acronyms used around the world in most languages.

e.g. CD/DVD in Japanese is CD/DVD  :-)
