Hi All, I have just bought a new car, well 2006 Japanese import, and it has an inbuilt Stereo/DVD/GPS system. Sanyo Genuine HDD navigation HS306-A . Unfortunately for me I don't speak or read Japanese does anyone know how to change the language of this?

Yes I know it's a long shot.

option 2 does anyone have a Japanese exchange student, who would be willing to do a bit of translating in the Auckland/Manukau area

Be worth asking the nearest Uni if they would put up a request on a student bulletin board, they will have foreign students

I would say not possible they are made for the jap market and that is all they support

Pretty much zero chance of being able to change the language. In terms of translating however, you could try Google translate app, it can take photos of Japanese text and translate to English.

If you have windows 8 you might be able to use Bing translate with a web camera. Just point it at the text and it will (hopefully) translate it for you.

Yep. Someone I know looked into it for the navigation / radio system in her used Jap-import car, and the result was the only solution is to replace the it with an English version ... which is hideously expensive due to being a custom design built into the dashboard.

Cheers All. I'll try lokhor's suggestion first and see how I go. Second option would be to try the webcam, either have to drive the car into the house or get a usb extension cord, wifey would probably prefer usb version

Was in the same position 5 months ago as you, went with an Android app which translated via the camera (freebie called Photo Translator). It did a reasonable job but didn't really help with my issue (bluetooth not working). I've looked into replacing my unit but it was going to be well over a grand as it would require a custom face plate etc. Once you get used to it, Japanese an't that bad :-D

So far no luck, the translators so far have given me words in English... but what does Kune...Kune Kune have to do with the stereo??

Checked out some stores today for a replacement but as kingjj says they're a bit on the expensive side for me. I've managed to lock in a few radio stations, just wish I could find the system menu so I could correct the clock time

Is the clock in the actual entertainment unit or is it in your dash instruments under the speedo etc? I know on my Toyota the clock is under the speedo (along with all the fuel/km info) and setting it was via the reset button beside it rather than through the entertainment consoles settings menu.

ok so lazy afternoon so thought I'd test google, not much actually but found this PDF that apparently is similar to your system, well found the info on a Russian site so maybe wrong.

The first link is a PDF so see if its similar then translate, google wouldn't as it was too big but if similar then probably cut & paste.

Bother...or words to that effect. It seems I don't have Japanese Language Pack installed. When I go to buy from Microsoft Office the clever bug#%*s have a drop down list that has the language packs of several Asian languages at the bottom, but as I don't read any of them I don't know which one is Japanese
Windows 8.1 Office 2013 it shouldn't be this hard

The wikipedia Page for Japanese language shows ' Japanese ' written in native script, to pick it from the windows language options
