Item: Gull in New Lynn whenever I can - it is often doing 1.96-1.99 a litre which is cheaper than Caltex/BP even with my discount card.

Plus the fact that it is the closest thing to an NZ "local" Fuel business and means I can feel vaguely and misguidedly smug about not giving my money directly to BP or Shell, who rate pretty highly on my cnutometer.

Shell is gone.

It is now Z, and NZ owned. http://z.co.nz/about-z/who-is-z-energy/

Caltex Old Hutt Road Fuel Stop (Wellington) as the diesel price is normally much cheaper than elsewhere (was $1.32/l this morning).
Petrol price there is about the same as elsewhere though.

old3eyes: 1. What petrol station do you use   = Zzzzzz
2. Why? (Price, services i.e. car wash, location, customer service. )  = They have eftpos at the pump.  No queing up with the gas thieves and coffee drinkers anymore..

if they are thieves they wont be queuing up , they will just take off with their vehicles ;)

Yeah but the gas stations treat everyone as a fuel thief..

Caltex, because it's closest to my place and I have a Smartfuel card. If I haven't accumulated discounts then it's sometimes cheaper to drive the extra two blocks to Gull, but I usually don't bother.

in Rotorua your mad if you dont use Pak n Save fuel mainly because it is so cheap .  Its 18 cents a litre cheaper than mobile caltex or Z without any discounts.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I tend to use the first petrol station I see with a no queue at the / a pump, after I realise I need to get some petrol. I have all the discount and loyalty cards. So it doesn't really matter which one I go to. I just don't want to be there all day waiting for a pump or to be able to get my car out of the place after filling up.

Caltex, because I need 95 and resent having to pay extra extra at BP for 98 (As they are the only 2 smartfuel stations)

Usually Mobil - 98 and it's cheaper. Will use others depending on urgency of need, or simply convenience, though.

Usually Mobil because Pak N Save changed their voucher from BP to Mobil.

When shopping at Countdown, then I use their voucher at Z.

I am one of those that don't really care about forecourt service, just want to fill up, pay and go. I don't use my car too much anyway...

Fair enough - I guess I still think of them as Shell...

I imagine the bulk of their crude and refined petrol still comes from Shell? I know trying to climb atop moral high ground as far as petrol is concerned is a hiding to nothing, but I still like to try and convince myself that I am scratching some kind of ethical itch by avoiding the more obviously ugly Oil companies!

(...I imagine that the Gull petrol still ultimately comes from one of the big players anyway, but still...)

Caltex, because of AA Smartfuel - I love it when I fill up and get $1.20/L discount; Also they have forecourt staff who are always friendly and helpful;

I refuse to use BP because even though they also do AA Smartfuel they always tried to take my Smartfuel discounts with out asking me, instead of accumulating them - even when asked to accumulate; And because the local BP was always the first local station to raise prices, and always the last to lower them.

Doesn't go nicely with my old cars :)
Not good with the rubber piping. It tends to gum up parts quickly if it sits too long. Clogged up some injectors in a car i had. My mates and i stay away from it as rule of thumb.
