if Bluetooth to your phone is important to you, then make sure you really give this a workout in a vehicle with your own device. I wrote the Hyundai off simply because the gadget tech was unreliable and dated interface-wise :)

I note from the Hyundai website that the offer states "while stocks last". So perhaps the promotion duration is still current, but they're all out of stock.

Hi, you can get decent discount if you can bargain when buying brand new car, especially if you pay cash in full. I saved at least close to $6k from RRP with additional things like mat/tow bar added on.

1. There is no rush to get the extended warranty now, as you can buy them just before the 3rd year warranty ended. (to be honest, the risk of new car failing is extremely small - i decided against it after checking with a few hyundai dealerships). Think of extended warranty is like 'insurance', the chance of needing it very small for a new car, that is well serviced, well looked after!

2. Do they really have this offer by Hyundai?

3. Yes - try to get the tow bar, mats and cargo liner. You have better bargaining by paying full cash price.

4. It is better to be installed by dealer - as they have warranty, guarantee of workmanship, original accesories that meet/fit nicely with the car - at a slightly higher price.

5. Yes, CARGO LINER is a must!!! Roof rack kit is a good idea. You will find that once the last row seat is up, the luggage area is just not enough.

as I said, every sales person, every brand manager, and every dealership is different.

some are negotiable, some are not.

Extended warranties can be bit of a con. They often come with a compulsory service plan, at inflated prices.

If the car is for non-business use, then the consumer guarantees act applies to it.

Bought a new MY2015 Santa Fe Elite Ltd today :) Ended up getting:

Decent discount on the MY2015 model
Towbar
Running boards
4 years service (+1 extra that was already included)
Paint and leather protection
Tinted driver and passenger windows
Mats + Full tank of gas

Thanks everyone for their tips. I had a demo model for an entire day and bluetooth worked fine. Will post pictures when i pick it up next week.

Btw..didnt get the cargo liner at this stage as i think it takes over the the last two seats which i do want to make use of when chucking the little ones out back.

And tow bar promotion is mostly valid for RRP price which i did not pay.

Do you mind if I ask what sort of discount you got? I'm curious to know what I can push for when I buy my next car, especially if I consider Hyundai whose product I like but whose list prices are a bit on the high side.

I bought a new car earlier this year.
I was thinking about getting the hyundai ix35 but decided on the ssang yong korando.

I think its important is that you make a list of the features you want. I was talking to the sales people at each dealer and showed them the list and got them to go through the list with me - before they gave me the sales pitch to show me things I didnt know I wanted.

To me things like heated seats, wing mirrors that fold in when the car locks and other fancy buttons are more important than engine size etc.

Turns out the korando was way more powerful compared to the toyota or kia. Only slightly less powerful (un noticable) than the hyundai.

So when it came down to the choice between the hyundai -vs- the korando, i decided on the korando.
Why?
Because for the $11,000 price difference, the only feature the hyundai had over the ssang yong was a reversing camera and in-dash satnav.
Both of which I fixed for $600 on alibabaexpress.com when i put in the android head unit.

I ended up getting an even better deal - $7k off the price because i got the taupo dealer's 11 month old ex demo model that had done 15,000kms. I drive about 35,000kms in a year so it was only a couple of months worth on the clock.

The extra features I got free in the car were side foot rails, driving led's and they gave me something like a 100,000kms warranty or 3 years (which ever came first) and free warrants for as long as I own the vehicle.

I wanted to pay extra for them to supply a tow bar and roof racks but the cost of that was in excess of $1600 so I took the ones off my old car, and got a local tow bar installer to put one on for me for $300.

Thats basically done it for me - my next car in 5.25 years time will be probably another ssang yong, or an ex demo model off a dealers yard because of the huge discount for a small number of kms on the clock.

I would be nervous about getting a cowboy outfit to install a towbar because it could potentially interfere with the electronic stability control.

I started looking for a new car seriously two months or so ago. From my experience, heres what every dealer should offer as a minimum:

3 year warranty
Mats
Full tank of gas

Walk if they dont do that. On top of that, some dealers will offer servicing within the warranty period while with others, you can buy fixed price servicing to last you few years.In terms of discount, it is a supply and demand situation. Heres a rough idea of discounts dealers were willing to offer (brand new) without any serious negotiation:

BMW - About 10-15K
Lexus - Not willing to discount at all
Audi - 2-5K, depending on model
Mitsubishi - - About 10K
Mazda - About 5K
Ford - About 2-3K
Toyota - The top end models e.g Highlander Limited ZR are sold on order so reluctant to offer any discounts
Hyundai - Try to get at least what they do for fleet discounts which is roughly 14%

Best time to get a decent deal is end of the month. December, March and Field days are usually the best times. I got an outstanding deal for the Hyundai mainly cause iam a supplier for them. Let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks Tony - that's really useful information.

It's interesting that BMW were flexible because I'd heard the opposite in another thread here a while ago. I'm quite keen on the 1 series but the list price is slightly outside of my budget, so it might be worth trying my luck with them.

My father just got $10.5k discounted off a RAV4 but Toyota's list prices seem a bit inflated so I guess they have room to move. I can understand them being reluctant to discount special order models.
