geekiegeek: To be fair they showed the car on Seven Sharp recently and the door lock didn't stand out as such. It just looked like part of the plastic surrounding the handle itself - design over function.

To be possibly unfair, the latch was exactly where it has been on just about every car in the last 20 years! Even my '94 nissan only shows the fluro stripe when it's in the unlocked position. I still found the lock without trouble. I must say when I saw it on TV the other night it cheered me up no end though, was a fabulous laugh!

Jumped into car, went to turn the ignition, no dice, wouldn't turn. Immediately suspected the keyless fob thing - tried using the emergency key, still no turn.

5 minutes of panic - lights work, battery is ok.

Then i moved the steering wheel slightly. Steering was just locked from when I parked - so couldn't turn the key.

Felt like a dick - lucky only my 5 year old was with me.

Been driving for 14 years - I blame lack of sleep.

it's ok. these things happen. do not panic. panic is removes rational thinking and logic to get you out of trouble. easy to say, harder to do.

easy to laugh at other people.

but my mother could not/would not/may not/will not be able to operate the VCR/iphone/ipad

my father on the other hand will try hard as he can to learn, sometimes not very successfully so

I spent an hour last weekend crying at my Line Trimmer because it wouldn't start.
Turns out I'd bumped the choke on with the belt on my pants, hadn't realised, and just assumed the choke was still in the correct position.

So I spent an hour trying to start it, but just keeping it flooded.

Eventually figured it out.

It's easy to laugh at others when something seems so clear cut and now, of course, I feel really stupid! I was really stupid!

My father had an iPad for 2 years before he realised it had volume buttons.

It's very easy to laugh at others (It's pretty much the only reason I'm on Twitter) but it's easy to forget we all do dumb things too...

On my Kia it appears to be possible to open the front doors from the inside even when they are locked. I assume they are mechanically linked to the locking mechanism to allow egress if a total power loss occurs while the doors are locked. As a backup there is a release lever on the inside of the tailgate, hidden under a plastic flap.

I worry about my mother attempting to drive the new vehicle that my father has just bought. She struggles to tune a radio or change TV channels, and she can't use a microwave oven unless it has rotary controls, so there is no way she would cope with the electronics on a modern car.

Dependent on the car and usually something that can be changed by the dealership.
