I actually ordered the 430W for about £120 ($240) and they sent me the 460 instead as the other was out of stock.. got lucky :D

I got this one a year ago from "investigate mag" website, its pretty good. I removed the suction cup thingy and the attachment used silicone to attach Velcro to the top of the camera an the top edge of the windscreen. It runs on USB 5V so I butchered one of those cigarette lighter chargers and located the power supply inside the lining above the courtesy light.

If you sit in a normal position in the car you can't really see it, and it is difficult to see from outside the car. It sits behind the blue window tint but I would rather have a blue tint to the video than have some ugly visible camera.

My android headunit has two composite inputs for a forward and reverse dash cam
It has an app that runs in the background to record to one of the SD card slots.

But I have been thinking thats only going to give me 480p at best so i do like the idea of wiring it up to the reading light.
I have a ~~mobile quota collection~~ radar detector and one of those cheap $30 dashcams off dx.com which would sit nicely if i wire it up there.

Someone posted some dashcam video recently on here where they are in Napier and it was recording speed overlaid as text on the video - I am assuming from a GPS source.

The police claim that a gps unit is not able to give an accurate enough speed in court and that their radar guns (known to have all sorts of technical issues with bouncing microwaves) are government certified by some sort of department of weights and measures - much like the petrol pump at your service station.

So i wonder what is required to get my samsung galaxy cellphone and/or gps dashcam certified for accuracy?

Okay so from what I understand the police run the only accredited speedometer testing lab in the country.

But this is interesting

They are accredited to be able to certify:
Speed Measuring Devices
(b) Speedometers – Speed Measuring Devices    Least uncertainty of measurement
Calibration of:
Radar speed measuring devices    0.64 km/h (at 100 km/h)
by simulation of Doppler frequency shifts
Laser speed measuring devices    0.64 km/h (at 100 km/h)
by simulation: for speed and for distance    1.0 m (50 m to 1000 m)
Static speed cameras by simulation    0.57 km/h (at 100 km/h)
Radar based speed cameras    1.0 km/h (at 100 km/h)
Dynamometers used for speedometer calibrations 0.11 km/h (at 100 km/h)
Tuning forks used to set up REDFLEXradarcam camera systems by oscillation 2 Hz (1 km/h at 86 km/h)
Measurement of frequency (based on GPS)    74 kHz at 35 GHz

If anyone got ticketed these holidays under zero tolerance policies at 101km/h it turns out they cant certify their radar guns to tell the difference between 100 and 101 km/h

From the few i have seen, its a mini usb socket so you need to supply it with 5V instead of 12v

That would be me. Its a Blackvue DR500GW-HD. Pretty good Dashcam.

Looks like Blackvue have a camera that records front and back, with GPS: http://www.blackvue.co.nz/#dr650gw-2ch

Here is a video review of the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH. Might be a nice upgrade to the one I have at the moment.

good info but only 14 people got ticketed for going 104kph or less over the holiday period according to the info released

I had plenty of space above my courtesy light to fit the butchered 5V cigarette lighter adaptor. I was also fortunate because my mirror only gets power when the key is in the ignition, so the camera can be automatically powered up with out having to run a wire up my "A" pillar. I just poked the mini USB connector out between the headlining and the windscreen.

If you are going to butcher a 5V adaptor just be aware that they normally use the negative (outside) terminal as the heat sink ... so use a few brain cells... :)

If anyone is wondering, the mirror is one of those ones that takes a flashcard for the Japanese traffic tolls system... And yes the circuit is fine with that amount of current draw.
