"Ricciardo clocked a 1:24.574, which is faster than the 2014 cars managed at the Spanish Grand Prix and the post-race test last season, and was 0.010s quicker than Kimi Raikkonen's best effort in the Ferrari."

Last year at Spain race the Mercedes quali was low 1:25, RB quail low 1:26. RB test is now mid 1:24

Off course other teams will improve, but I'd expect Mercedes improvement to be less in percentage terms, as they were already closer to ideal than anyone

haven't watched the said testing videos (but thanks for the heads up!) but it's really hard to know where they stand until the chequered flag. really.

or at least qualifying.

at the moment i'd say nobody knows where they stand as a package.

pure driving ability i'd like to see if vettel can actually drive ... if he gets beaten by kimi all the time then we know hé can't drive! but that would be extrapolated to mark :(

if not, then we can say ree-chee-ardoh is super human

You got it!, I like Vettel he matured from rookie errors but mark was really good, just lacked the X factor, or lacked support, like Rosberg. Dang, RBR seem behind now, but they were well behind last year too. They rand 2nd.

Roll on next week.

ps i missed the dramas over the weekend. if bothas isn't racing why isn't susie wolff racing? just start from the pit lane if she didn't qualify! no offense but i want to see where she stands amongst the big boys! really do!

Cannot use a reserve driver after qualifying. They don't have a reserve driver, Suzie is a test driver. They have Linz but he's too young. Reading between the lines, they will look elsewhere fr an experienced driver, and use Susie if they need to. They should use her, great PR.

Brundel, Hill, and Herbert gave the race, 7, 6, and 5 out of 10.  It's a managed, scripted, favoured race between Hamilton and Rosberg. Hamilton will win the title as he is the favoured one, there will be no allowed to race theme. Ferrari and Williams will have a season long race for second in the Constructors. RBR will probably be next, then Sauber.

The new engine spec, means most teams are still struggling, and the ones that are getting there will line up in the procession, in that order, IMO. Ferrari vs Williams will be worth watching, thats about it. One day, all teams will master the engine package, then it will be close racing, or they change it again. A concern was that it appears to be harder to pass from behind as the downforce loss is more, so that is a bummer. Kimi's Ferrari couldn't get past the undriveable RBR of Ricciardo, it should have screamed past, especially as RBR have software drivability issues, impossible to master the brake and throttle on turns, so Kimi should have just lined him up, but it never happened.

She does. They will want the best alternate driver, but if they look elsewhere, why have her or Linz? Maybe they will ask Mark Webber to step in? Not a silly idea.

Been there done, that dozing off wise. Was it Abu Dhabi that they raced hard with each other, then they pitted one, then lo and behold, they ended up well split apart. Its not like that. In lap, out lap, pitstop, will vary by a few tenths, or quite a few tenths, they wont end up miles apart. From then on "strategy" kept them apart.
