joker97: I bought a grey car. When i got it it looks like the colour of the road.

All road coloured cars please turn on your lights.

All cars should be made to turn on their lights all the time, regardless of their colour.

No, No, No.  Motorcycles must have their lights on at all times so that they can be seen.... If cars also turn their lights on, the motorcycle disappears into the background, defeating the purpose of the new law.

Best example is when a bike travels in the right wheel track of the car behind (this helps avoid oil drips on road etc) and the car behind has headlights similar to the bike.

I once worked for a company who had a policy that you must use lights at all times driving company cars.... I refused to sign that clause.

gzt: Can you please turn your lights on. Your vehicle is the same colour as the sky today. Also it is 6pm anyway. Thank you.

Always stayed away from them in the UK because they disappear in the fog and mist!

I think drivers believe turning lights on costs them an arm and a leg...

All cars soon will. The EU have a law requiring LED running lights and so do a number of US states, so makers will simply put them in all their cars and are starting to do just that.

I love the "car trains" you see - 3 or 4 or 5 cars, all going along so close together that they look like a train, with not a snowball's chance of not hitting the car in front in an emergency braking situation.

See that a lot.

Yes, yes, yes.  Car visibility is poor in NZ, people refuse to put their headlights on in times of poor lighting, the only sensible solution to to force day light lighting, this should have been done at the same time as motorcycle daylight lighting law change.  There are other options to use for motorcycles, if the government was serious about road safety they would look at implementing them.

As I said, I'm convinced the people who won't turn on lights think it costs them money.

That would be the same people that wind all their windows down instead of turning on AC.

It's actually 30mins before sunset and 30mins after sunrise for having lights on. Personally, I think lights should be on all cars at all times.

The amount of cars/trucks (even a black motorcycle with all black rider the other day) I see driving in heavy rain and when it's dark without lights on is insane.

In a lot of countries this is mandatory now to have day running lights.  Lots of new vehicles in NZ  are also fitted with them.  My car is silver and I hate the color but it doesn't show the dirt..

Indeed it would! And the same ones who run down hills in neutral...!

Because, as we all know, mud is silver....!

The tiny Noddy cars that do 25-35KM/h around a sign posted 60 corner, then take such a wide line they cross the center-line piss me off.

Nothing against silver cars myself. In some daylight overcast conditions they are harder to notice in peripheral vision or rear/side view if the lights are off and coming at ya out of the sky background.

What is the actual rule anyway?

The sunset rule makes it legal to drive with lights off during a partial eclipse ; ).

Usually the same ones that slow to 10k's before pulling into a driveway or sidestreet but do it from the centerline to make it easier. Horn no help educating them because they seem in a daze.
