BlueShift:
Hang a "Free to a good home" sign on the side of it.
Never works.
Put a fridge out once saying "working, free" - noone touched it. Changed sign to say "Working $50", the fridge vanished in 10mins.*
* No I didnt actually but was something I read :)

MikeAqua:It's illegal to park a trailer on the road for more than a week without using it (I've been ticketed for this).
Also illegal to park on the berm (even if seemingly sensible to do so).
If you ring the council they will either tow it (if it's illegally parked) or put an 'abandoned vehicle' notice on it, which says they can tow it after xx days.
Generally councils won't take any action until someone complains.
Put a photo and street address of it on facebook. Be sure to make the post public. It will be gone in no time flat.
Gosh, why on earth does anyone pay for storage in Auckland?
1. Buy a secure trailer
2. Put all your stuff in it
3. Park it pretty much anywhere
4. Remove licence plates....
5. Free storage, PROFIT! :)

See my link - AT won't regard it as abandoned until they have written to the owner. Can't find the owners address if there's no number plate
Check out the link (to applicable legislation) on the AT page. There is process the council can follow. Sounds like they just don't want to.
One complication with a trailer is whether the load (e.g. a boat) is part of the vehicle?

richms:
often with boats the lights and plate are on a detachable board, those go missing if left on the trailer so may be with the owner.
It's a quite fancy boat TBH (parked on Victoria Ave in Remuera)
I think the owner found a loophole to use the sidewalk as free storage space.

Hypothetically ... if your boat was financed and you were behind on payments, storing it plate-less on a street away from where you live would be a good repossesion avoidance tactic.
