Geektastic:Supplying what would effectively be false information would invalidate your insurance in the event of a claim. Since you can (and will) be sued for personal injury in an accident in a claim that could run to millions this might be considered unwise...!

In NZ you can only sue for exemplary damages, personal injury is covered by ACC.

As an occasional facebook user, there's an apparent serious flaw in the algorithms / heuristics they use in profiling to target ads.  The computers don't recognise humour, sarcasm etc in what people post (from my experience), and as a good number of comments made are of that nature. I seem to see a lot of targeted ads that are the opposite of what I'd ever want to see.  Of course you can correct that and help them by deleting the ads and giving reasons why you didn't like them, but I doubt many people bother, on occasions I've bothered I give them the most sarcastic reason available on the list.  Same as market surveys etc, where I lie as cunningly as I'm able when ad-libbing.

Not that I'd bother to post a comment where an idiot uploaded a video of himself doing donuts in his mitsubaru turbo thing, smothering cyclists in smoke, but if I did it'd probably be along the lines of wishing him all the best in court next week, the cops are idiots for charging him, as with the level of skill displayed it must have been the cyclists fault.

I presume a comment like that could result in an increase in premium and excess.

Making sure I had an account that only reflected my best attributes would no more be "supplying false data" than every CV I've ever sent... why would anyone volunteer something that might hurt their chances of succeeding unless legally required to do so (e.g. Police check for Teachers / Passenger licence etc.)

Looks like Facebook takes a dim view of anyone else mining its data

Facebook has blocked plans by an insurer to view young drivers' profiles to help set car insurance premiums.

This is like one of Dr Evil's plots being foiled by Lex Luthor.
