elpenguino: Yeah but when I stop at a red light in NZ I can be pretty sure I will live until it turns green 😊

Good point.

Although plenty of people here do not stop at red lights - so bonus points for doing that!

If it's a speed camera, you can't lose points because they can't prove who the driver was. But if they pulled you over......yeah. That should have been 10 points as you were more than 15kph over.

In Australia it's assumed it the registered owner of the car who was driving unless that owner nominates another person as the driver and that other person agrees that they were driving.
So somebody is going to get points and the fine every time a speed camera goes off.

Yeah. Kiwis seem to be more concerned with just outcomes. The owner will pay the fine.....and can then address the problem with anyone else who may have been driving. But people losing their license for something they didn't do is seen as being wrong.....and placing them in the position of having to dob someone else in is also creating an interpersonal problem that it isn't really necessary to create.
