No idea why they didn't simply ask "Peter" why he wasn't smart enough to simply turn TA off on his radio.

I suspect people's ignorance and/or stupidity will always be one of the biggest impediments of a technology solutions' acceptance, no matter how much easier it can potentially make their lives.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I once indicated and pulled over because an ambulance was coming up behind, only to have the car behind overtake me thus holding up the highly visible ambulance.

Ive had the same idea for ages, but never bothered going anywhere with it because it always came back to the whole "people dont listen to radio" in their cars all the time. CD's, DVD's, MP3's, tape would'nt be affected by it.......

Years ago in my 1st car (73 Datsun 1200), it had the original AM radio with single speaker.....it was off. I still didnt hear a fire truck come up behind me with full on sirens. (And no, nothing wrong with my hearing)

From some of the things mentioned in the comments above, I have no idea why some sort of basic intelligence test is not required before you are licensed to drive!

Every time we discuss driving I arrive at the inescapable conclusion that a significant proportion of those behind the wheel should be in some sort of institution rather than in a car.

Go Rentals have done something like this with Bluetooth for their cars down south. Plays safety messages over bluetooth when you go past a roadside transmitter. I don't get how that would work f you didn't have the stereo set to bluetooth. Unless I guess they use the same sort of signalling your phone does when a phone call comes in.

Would be great if it was some kind Special communications receiving system built into each car radio for this purpose. (When driverless or heverly driver assisted cars come along, it would be very desirable to have them be aware of emergency vehicle beyond line of sight).

If it is simply jamming AM/FM frequencies, it would be a major pain in the arse.

As a side note, Just got back from Manila Philippines. Nothing quite like seeing ambulances stuck in traffic, and nobody caring.

They should have some sort of basic intelligence test before you're allowed to breed (and you don't even need a licence to do that).

From what I could tell there was a separate box stashed in the dash. When featured on tv it was seen by the window. However the example used here had clearly been paired to a normal BT unit for demonstration..

The LTSA article said 50 devices to be installed in the vehicles. So theres some sort of interfacing

Yes, Manilla is not exactly the place for that kind of thing to work well.

Last time I was there, the hotel had an armed guard who checked (in a fairly haphazard way) for car bombs, whilst wearing an old Colt 1911 that was so rusty, I would not have dared shoot it myself - if it had a mag in it, which it didn't...! Perhaps he was going to throw it at any miscreants?

Still, you can't beat the KTV Bar girls for window shopping....

To clarify, she was driving not me! just re-read that. We actually had been shopping as it turns out but the P1 was not related to that.

Apparently in other places in Europe they do have this system in action, I spoke to SWMBO about this.

As for the RDS, my Alpine unit had this function, and I think it does interrupt all input, but it is a function that a user can turn off! Also a lot of people are driving with headphones on these days, freaking dangerous but I'd say there are a lot of people that do this.

They are generally very distracted and will sit in the fast lane doing 80km/h!
