Remember 105 dingers that everyone raged about and had to be removed?.. :)

My '13 hooondy has the equivalent now, but you specify a max speed. You can bury your foot all you like and it will not go above (unless double stabbed to pass etc) Good for teaching younglings I'd imagine.

I've had it around the 50mark from memory. But you cant exactly prank. It has a dash indicator, and if you bury it past half way itll bypass.

I have had a top of the line Valentine for many years now. I'm no racer but I couldn't live without it. I like to know what is happening around me and when it is off I feel blind. Yes, lots of misplaced (not false) alerts on Ka from burglar alarms and automatic doors but I just turn the volume down. Agree that even this detector is not much good for camera vans. The signal is just too weak but at least I know when I have been pinged. It is fantastic for police cars. On the open road at the end of a long dip I have had alerts from many kms away, maybe even as much as 20! Even in town I get alerts long before I see the cars.

I have found that having the detector has made me much more conscious of my speed. I tend to creep over limits without realising it but that doesn't happen so much any longer. Of course this has nothing to do with the topic. I have no experience with cheap detectors from Aliexpress. What I know from experience is that in most cases, a detector is only really useful against police cars. They send out very strong signals and I would imagine that even cheap detectors would be able to pick those up without much problem, though there might be other quality issues with the very cheapest.

Yeah gave Waze a go tonight, not much use for me. There were a couple of notifications of an upcoming traffic jam, but that always happens in that spot at that time on Fridays. I don't have alternative routes, so just have to suck it up. Saw a cop parked at the side of the road opposite the traffic jam - this didn't come up in Waze

I guess that's the problem with Waze. Its a community based App that needs users to alert others. Its massive in Europe as nearly everyone I know uses it so every traffic jam, road work and police officer is marked.

Generally when the needle is around 20PSI+ its considered burying it.

I had a Beltronics belpro discrete install in my Audi S4. Remote F & R laser and jam, Front radar.
Was a GREAT bit of kit. Had some components that did some funny things with lasers for a few seconds and a loud alarm giving you time to bring things into line. Would definitely grab one again, How ever it suffered a premature death from one of the modules cables having a cable break, Unit wont function unless it has full connection.

Guys do let me know if these $20 ebay things work or not. Wouldn't mind having one for long trips on SH1. I find myself at times creeping over the speed limit and overtaking massive lines of cars with trailers that can only do 70KPH on the road then all of a sudden they are slingshotted down the overtaking lane at 130. Last time someone royally pissed me off so on the next overtaking lane i blocked them and sat on 90 so people could pass. They followed me to the gas station i got off at and went nuts, Only to be reminded the speed limit for trailers was 90. I know, i'm a good citizen.

Just a wee caution that jammers are illegal - as is anything that interferes with a vehicle speed measurement device. So if you get caught with it, expect a fine.

Yep very aware of that, I do not operate jammers currently and do not anticipate that i ever will going forward.
Was fun to play with at the time how ever.

I only had the kit for a few weeks before it died from that cable break :(

Wouldn't the component that did 'funny things to lasers for few seconds' be a form of jammer? Or at least something that interfered with speed measurement device?

Are you sure about that wording?

My understanding is that is illegal to transmit radio waves in that band, which you would have to do if you were jamming a radar.

By my understanding is that the visible spectrum is unlicensed... I believe I can do pretty much what I like in the way of lights (within the restrictions of white to the front, red to the rear, etc traffic laws) and lasers (without causing harm).

Nothing to do with spectrum management From Land Transport Act 1998.

16B Interference with operation of speed measuring devices
Every person commits an offence who—
(a)uses in a motor vehicle any equipment that interferes with the operation of a speed measuring device:
(b) possesses in a motor vehicle any equipment that is designed to interfere with the operation of a speed measuring device.

Also listed in road code as a demerit point earner.

Lasers don't seem to be used much anyway, at least where I live. I rarely get hits and I never see a cop on the road. I think most are just kids playing.

I've only once seen a laser gun used by cops. In Blenheim of all places. But it was lone cop on foot in high vis, flagging down speeding cars. couldn't see patrol car anywhere. I was pretty sure I'd been pinged so did a quick u-turn before I was close enough to flag down.
