tchart: Red ring of death?
LOL. That ring of death is quite common. I don't think transmission gully is going to solve that either. Lack of investment on SH2, as it needs at least 1 extra lane in each direction, and the old petone overpass is a huge bottleneck.

Will be solved quiet soon.

HAHAHA... I remember that from 8 years ago working in Grenada... Good to see it "well underway".

Yea, like Transmission Gully. Its been planned for over 50 years. Speaking to some older folk, they recall talking about this "new road", even back when they were kids.
At least that one is now well in progress.
mdf: Feeling pretty smug about working from home today after:
- morning fog at the airport
- America's cup parade at midday
- slip in Ngauranga gorge (that looks bad - hope @freitasm and the other Johnsonvillains get home safe)
- crash a couple of hundred metres away from said slip (not sure what it is about heavy traffic that increases general f*wittery on Wellington roads)
- the approaching "end of days", "weather bomb" or "average winter weather", depending on your perspective.
More on the NZTA Wellington twitter feed, including images. When the still and the video look the same as each other you know you're in trouble!
I was feeling pretty smug about not working this week (or next) due to looking after my little 5 year-old madam during school holidays :-)

I'd caution against holding your breath on this. There's been a lot of opposition to this road from nimby's complaining about what'll happen to all the lovely scenery up Takapu Road. NZTA should be making an RMA application relatively soon but that'll then have to go through the objection process.
I thought NZTA has dropped the Takapau Link Road

Stuff headline this morning of 'Wellington Commuter Chaos'
Hmm, really?
I boarded a Johnsonville West bus in the hills of Johnsonville this morning at 7:39 and was sipping my coffee at 8:20 in the office (Willis street). A lot less people on that bus than usual though, and a few passengers took the option of the taking the train when the bus reached Johnsonville station.
Two southbound lanes open, but still a lot of dirt and rock matter maybe 50 metres long on the inside southbound lane.
What have other northern suburbs commuters experienced?
I decided last night to just work from home... The weather is miserable too so I saved myself the trip on the 53 this morning.

Ah, hadn't seen that. I lost interest after all the hoo-ha that went on round here. That proposed route actually looks better (more direct) than before.
I drove past at 6:20am with no problems. I can see on the traffic cams quite a decent tailback, and the news says it was back to Tawa at one point.
That slip _halved_ my commute time. Every bugger was stuck in town and I got from Grenada North to Pram Beach in record time.. Brilliant stuff... I've may need to pop down to Ngauranga with some explosives every night and create daily slips :-)

Not the first slip in the gorge. This pic was apparently taken on 11 Feb 1960. No idea of the original source sorry.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Old Wellington Region posted the photo. It's from the evening post and is stored in the national library.
