Feeling pretty smug about working from home today after:

- morning fog at the airport

- America's cup parade at midday

- slip in Ngauranga gorge (that looks bad - hope @freitasm and the other Johnsonvillains get home safe)

- crash a couple of hundred metres away from said slip (not sure what it is about heavy traffic that increases general f*wittery on Wellington roads)

- the approaching "end of days", "weather bomb" or "average winter weather", depending on your perspective.

More on the NZTA Wellington twitter feed, including images. When the still and the video look the same as each other you know you're in trouble!

@freitasm is doomed because he normally takes the bus. While I am fine as I take the train (however it is quite busy).

Rest in peace our glorious BDFL.

Do not forgot, due to the heavy traffic, Wellingtons public transport have decided to not make themselves available. Luckily I do not start work until 930 tonight and the wife stayed home sick.

I left early and took the train to Porirua, where we're having dinner. Then we track back to Johnsonville... Working from home tomorrow.

Train was moving too quick to catch a picture however it is looking pretty hectic. Going to be a late night getting home for some.

@freitasm Good planning!

Not seen the train this busy before. The request to squeeze in a bit more feel on deaf ears...

My train to Tawa wasn't too bad but a little more busy than normal. I would say if you were going to Johnsonville then really good luck...

SH1 has been bumper to bumper since launch time 2 hr + travel time to get to the city from tawa

just shows you if you live in wellington and a big earthquake happens and on the Ngauranga Gorge or the hutt road has a larger slip both sides it could take months with it closed

No problems on the Hutt valley line. But southbound road seem d backed up most of the way as all the cars trying to get up the gorge couldn't.

It's normally the Hutt valley that's screwed.

I'm sure we have a robust, effective and adequately resourced plan for that eventuality....🤣

I drove the very long way around the gorge, via Karori. With the slip and the weather I might work from home tomorrow too.

Took me an hour to get to Melling. Was mostly plain sailing after Avalon and all clear beyond the Haywards interchange!
