In all honesty you have nowhere to go wrt. the dealer. The first thing I do when buying a 2nd hand car is inspect the tyres for condition and age. I'll use that information to knock the price down if I think I might need to replace them in the first 12 months. Often if buying from a reputable dealer they'll offer to replace them for new rather than negotiate on the price.

Sorry also in the camp that you haven't got a leg to stand on. It's a secondhand vehicle so that comes with some risk although you can mitigate most of those by thorough due diligence.

The tyres are legal for use on NZ roads and meet WOF standard - the dealer has done nothing wrong.

16,000 km on a secondhand set of tyres probably isn't too bad IMO.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I think my experience with second hand cars was pretty much expecting to replace the tires with something that I liked straight away.

Not quite as bad as one car I bought where I wasn't sure if it had enough petrol to get me to the nearest station! I'd paid the guy about $15K in cash and he didn't even have the courtesy to fill it up! Other than that, the car was brilliant.

Sigh, I miss Type R's and manual transmissions.

I sold a car like that once. Not on purpose, he turned up a day earlier than we'd agreed and had the cash ready so wasn't going to turn him away. It was only ~$4K so I just gave him a $50 note back and said sorry, haven't had a chance to fill it up.

Back on the subject of tyres. I had 4 new tyres fitted a couple of years back. I stipulated they had to be less than 18mths old or I wouldn't accept them. Went to pick the car up and they were closer to 3 yrs old. There was a bit of a standoff before they eventually agreed to remove them and put my old tyres back on so I could get the job done elsewhere.
