There's a huge difference between being a bad driver and simply falling back into the training of a lifetime and driving on the wrong side of the road for this country in a moment of distraction.

Not for me, thanks. I don't want or need it.

But perhaps for those renting cars with overseas driver's licences, from nations that drive on the right, it could be implemented, for their safety and ours.

Yeah lane departure IME gets a bit confused by some intersection markings and also gets naggy when taking the best line through corners.

I'd like to see it mandatory for ALL drivers from countries where they drive on the right hand side of the road.  As the new dual receiver GPS systems become common (able to pinpoint to a very small distance) so that the lane you are in can be determined by the GPS, it will become very easy to have accurate lane departure warnings.

You know what?  Why not go with semi-autonomous vehicles with built in dash cams that can report bad drivers.  It's bad enough having NZers being a menace on the road, we don't need to have foreign visitors adding their lack of skill or unfamiliarity with the left hand driving, causing more deaths.  A semi-autonomous car that can emergency brake and swerve to avoid obstacle, that knows what side of the road to drive on - that would be a great thing for incompetent drivers!

Surely you're not suggesting that NZ roads aren't engineered to provide proper camber when someone drives in their own lane???

After the Brexit decision, now the UK will head to the left-hand traffic for compatibility reasons. But they will ensure that the swap will not be too hard.

First they'll start with the lorries ;-)
