Far better IMO to compare the price of food and building materials, and why we seem to pay more in NZ than Oz or even the UK, for some of the same NZ produced goods.
Geektastic: I was in Melbourne for the weekend and was surprised at how much lower fuel costs were (unleaded was advertised around $1.51).
Anyone with more knowledge of the two places able to shed any light on the disparity? It is quite large.
The oil companies are playing politics in NZ, jacking up the petrol price before July 1st, when the regional petrol tax starts.
It's that simple.
I've spent most of the last 3 months in OZ - Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth.....and it's obvious to me what's going on. The currencies are both stable. Other costs are stable......but NZ's price took off like a rocket after the fuel tax was announced.
Definitely politics.

Handle9:Dingbatt: How much tax (oops I mean fuel excise) is charged on Australian fuel?
Edit: Google says 0.4c/litre.
Take the NZ tax out and petrol in NZ is about $1.50.More like 40c/l (according to google)
