Bung:
nakedmolerat: />with regards to my last ecopia set, they lasted over 60k.

I've had 3 sets of Ecopia. 1st set behaved like OEM Turanza 47k, 2nd set much harder rubber lasted 90k. 3rd set, got so used to driving to the limitations of the 2nd set I haven't checked it's wear/performance numbers. Point being they share a marketing name but there's quite a variation.

i found Thailand made does a bit diff than Japan made for same brand , same model.

I had some Ecopias on my Primera. I hated them.  Too hard and consequently not enough grip for my liking with the driving I was doing at the time (a lot of winding roads). I did save some fuel, but only because I found myself driving significantly slower in winding sections.

I haven't tried the Michelins, so I can't comment on them.

timmmay: I can only go by reviews, since I know nothing about tyres. I appreciate the thoughts.

Won't be buying four tyres, no point throwing away two good tyres for what I imagine is a marginal advantage of a matched set.

what brand is it the other two tyres? why don't you get the same brand/model?

I do tend to put a couple of psi extra into my small car but i run recommended pressure for this car. Better comfort on family vehicle.

Have continental tyres that are expensive and haven't lasted long, so going to another good quality brand.

Michelin it is. Tony's would beat the price by $20 if I called them back again, but I'm not impressed with them. Last time I got tires from there they didn't inflate them properly, only half inflated, driving on the was quite dangerous. They also don't give you a good price up front, you have to call around and call back multiple times to find the best tyre and get the best price. I'd rather go with Beaurepaires who gave me a good recommendation and a good price upfront with no messing about.

well you can't go wrong with either.

i know Tony & Bridgestone are owned by same company - but the manager will undercut one another for sales.

2019 Update - Bridgestone Alenza 001

After having a tyre destroyed by nails on the road we need two new tyres. The Primary 3 ST we put on the back aren't on offer right now. Instead of the Ecopia, which seems to focus on economy rather than performance and grip, we're going for the Bridgestone Alenza 001. It's meant to be a luxury / performance tyre with more emphasis on grip and performance than economy or super long life. Since our priority is safety I'm giving it a go on the front. I'll report back in a few months, or if I forget someone can ask.

Any long term review/update on the Alenza 001 please?

Getting new tyres in the next few months, due to its OEM size I don't have much choices. Ta.

they work fine, I can't tell any difference between the old tires which were continentals and the new tires.

i get whatever i want from hyperdrive.co.nz - they usually have one type (one budget and one premium) that has a crazy low price. buy whatever because if they all explode at the same time i just buy another set. no need to buy long wear tyre as when you have a puncture bye bye long life.

I wish my tyres were that price....!

Just put two Continentals on the Volvo - that was $1100 including an alignment!

FWIW, I have never regretted putting on the best tyres I could find and I would never skimp on the only thing that actually holds your car on the road....

if I have a car with some crazy rims i would buy a normal set of wheels to score cheap tyres - will pay itself off within 2 tyre changes.

The Alenza tires have lasted 26,000km / 2.5 years of mostly around Wellington driving before needing to be replaced. I think that's a bit low. They are meant to be very grippy tires and have worked well. They might have a little bit more life in them, but they are near the minimum tread out the outside, more on the inside, suggesting alignment required. This time we'll probably get Michelin Primacy 4, which happen to rate best in Consumer and also are a reasonable price.

26k kms ! That's really poor for what is an average tyre.

Yeah, I think it's a bit more performance oriented and softer. Will go more mainstream next time.

Different scenarios but I drive two of my cars like I stole them and they both have PS4's and get double your 26k.

The daily got over 70k on the front with RE003's and two sets of S001's.

I'd rate all three tyres far more performance oriented than the Alenza.
