Turbo petrol motor normally has lower compression ratio than the same naturally aspirated engine would have. However, the turbo blows more air/fuel mixture into the cylinder than would be drawn in without the turbo, so it's a similar effect to raising the compression ratio.
Batman: OK sorry I thought turbos need high octane because they have high compression... I guess not?
It's just me being a bit pedantic. Because a turbo forces more air in, they lower the compression of the engine to compensate (as ultimately it will be much higher under boost).
But you still are likely to need to the higher octane fuel. What kind of car do you have? I remember being a high school in the mid nineties and a friend's Dad bought an A8 which had 220kW from its 4.2L V8 and thinking how amazing that was.
