Anyone know of stations selling 100 octane fuel in the Auckland or Northland areas?

Does your ECU know you've put 100 octane in?

I used to buy it from the aero club at Whangarei airport, but that was a few years ago.

Yup .. to a point it adjusts. It's a high compression engine so 95 is the minimum from factory it wants and I've fiddled with it and it knocks if I thrash it 😁 want to see if 100 works better.

Gull Force Pro petrol maybe?

https://gull.nz/fuel/gull-force-pro/

Problem though is that it is 85% ethanol. It is only available at some Gull stations, so check before you visit.

Engine needs to support Fuel Flex to use E85, I remember them launching it in Hamilton back when the V8s were in town and at the time there was only a type of Holden Commodore that could run it.

I think that will be "100LL AVGAS", i.e. Leaded petrol. Your modern engine may not be happy with tetraethyl lead going through it - it might poison your catalytic converter for example.

Also, does AVGAS have the road tax paid? If not, is it legal to use it in a road vehicle?

How does BP 98 fare?

I also have a high compression 2L engine banging out 220kW and 400Nm and it used to shudder when i first got it ... fed it 98 and it is mellow again.

That is the Gull Force Pro E85 petrol that I linked to earlier.

I know someone who has an RX7 that has been tuned to run on that fuel (more boost possible when you run ethanol). But he can only now use that fuel.

Leaded petrol also destroys oxygen sensors. So that alone rules out leaded petrol from being used in almost any modern engine.

How high is high? I wouldn't think anything turbo would be high compression? 11:1 is high.

As for 100 octane, normally airfields have it but the car needs to be expecting it. I have an Integra Type R motor that was tuned on 98 and as a consequence needs to run on it. Though I'm sure it would on 95 in emergency.

OK sorry I thought turbos need high octane because they have high compression... I guess not?
