That is what I read, but the officer apparently never mentioned that to her at all, which struck me as a strange omission on his part.

Perhaps I shall take it as an excuse to upgrade my radar detector and give her my existing one...!

A radar detector isn't necessarily going to save here. Going 20km/h + over the speed limit is dangerous and very obvious. Even in a Police car sees you at this speed and doesn't have their radar on you'd still get pulled over as it's going to be pretty obvious especially if it was a 50 km/h area.

Pulled over and warned though... There's nothing else they could do in terms of speeding without proof. Sure they could give the car a good going over - but assuming you stayed in lane and didn't tailgate someone they couldn't even hit you with dangerous driving for 70 in a 50.

Cheers - N

They can pace check you by following behind and matching the speed and checking on their speedometer. That assumes that their speedometer is calibrated and within certification. There was a thing a few years ago where it was revealed a lot of the cars had that certification lapse so tickets issued that way were invalidated.

Geektastic: My wife got nicked for speeding this evening on her way back from work. Not the first time her lead weighted right foot has got her into trouble with the rozzers.

She was fined $170. No mention was made of points. Does she get them automatically or are they only if the police officer awards them?

I can understand why she was speeding to get away from the rat race and return to the peaceful relaxation of the Wairarapa. Maybe that should be a reasonable grounds for a warning😀

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

coffeebaron: Get a Uniden R7. Best detector I've ever owned. Consistently 200m+ for camera vans, and not too chirpy on K band. Uniden use to be the poor cousin of detectors, but not any more.

Oh that is good on the camera. My Escort Passport would be almost on top of it, but is pretty reasonable on Ka band. It's a couple of years old now though so perhaps not the latest tech etc.
