It was a problem on the early examples of the 2.2 diesel engine. It's no longer a risk, except for those purchasing older second hand ones that haven't been through the applicable recall programme.

When it comes to changing the battery on these cars, make sure you get the prescribed battery that has extra juice to cope with the istart function ie turning off and on at the lights. I learnt that lesson by trying to put in a cheap battery, then found the istart did not work. Ended up getting the prescribed one, at around $450!!! Not a cheap exercise.

How often do they need new batteries? I learnt that if you keep the air conditioning on, istop never works. Or justwiggling the steering wheel when stopped, or not fully pressig down fully on the brake.

AFAIK most of the load on the battery is keeping the electrical systems running when the engine is stopped. Mazda say that the engine is restarted mostly by firing a sparkplug in a cylinder sitting on compression.

It doesn't engage if you have the front demister on. Otherwise under normal air conditioning operation it will suspend the air conditioning until the cabin temperature reaches a certain threshold, and then it will restart the engine to get the air conditioning compressor going again.

I had a dead battery after 80,000k in my CX3.

But Mazda towed my car from my house, swapped the battery / gave me a loaner... and charged me nothing for the whole exercise, so that was nice :-)

It's one of the reasons I picked up a new Mazda 3 when it came to replacement time - their service team have been good to work with.

They had to replace the computer in the infotainment centre in mine after the nav kept freezing up, which other people also reported, but since then it has been good.

you can turn off istop... button should be on the mid/lower right hand side dash.

Its only off for as long as the car is on...it resets back to 'on' after car has been started from off again.
