hi,
I just brought a late 2017 mazda cx-5 . Gsx model.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks for ownership .
It came with a 5 year extended warranty so that part is sorted.

Since you've bought it second hand I'd suggest replacing the battery in each key. You will get an advisory message on the dashboard when the key battery gets low, however it's better to just do it proactively so that you don't get caught out having to do it under urgency.
When I got mine I had to reduce the sensitivity of the forward collision warning system because it tended to get over-excited when driving around narrow and windy Wellington roads.
There isn't much else really. I bought mine 18 months ago and it's been fuss free apart.
Go thru the menu settings and see what's turned on and off like the train track warning and lane departure. Have a look thru the user manual and see what they are .
Does it have heads up display?? Also it should have the latest version of the navigation software if it has been serviced recently.
And as alasta said check the remote batteries though when they get low it will show up on the right hand dash display.

Yup - update the navigation and make sure all the GPS settings included paved roads only... I was caught out by that once near Palmerston North! It tried to take me on a pretty wild journey into farmland!
I didn't have CX5, just the CX3, but the interior isn't a million miles apart. I did find the limit of 30 x favourite GPS coordinates a little restrictive, something they've fixed on the latest generation Mazda's.
Keep an eye on the Oil levels
jonherries: Just did the Carplay install myself for my 2016 cx5 - USD$148 from the US - was quoted $500 here in Wellington. Took about 2 hours, most of the time was getting the old USB port out.
This is interesting:

Haven’t done this (need a serial usb TTL adapter) but the tweaks certainly fit with my biggest bugbears I already have with the entertainment system. Just a bit nervous of bricking it.

What does the warning symbol look like?
I had to replace the battery in my Mazda 3 key recently. I didn't notice any warning.
OP it's worth adjusting the sensitivity of the auto headlights. I found I wanted them to come on at higher light levels than the factory setting.

Did the upgrade, really love it, mate said it was 400, turned out to be 495, well worth it.
I looked at buying on Amazon, but then I need to wait a month and then spend a few hours updating firmware and running cables, I just pculdnt be bothered waiting, got my local mazda dealership do it.
Who was your local dealer?
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

The CX-5 has a colour LCD panel at the right hand side of the instrument binnacle, and it displays a warning icon and advisory message.
I previously had a Mazda 3 and never saw any such warning, but that's possibly because I tend to pro-actively replace the batteries before they get low. Check your handbook.
