I have whisperbars on a Subaru legacy. They work well, have attached ski racks, a roofbox, kayaks and lots of timber and sheets of gib/ply.
The advantage of the overhang is it makes it easier to strap timber and things onto the roof.
scuwp:
We just leave ours on. Can't identify any discernible difference to fuel use, and to be a bit shallow, looks cooler on our SUV.
I also prefer the look of my car with the roof bars on. It makes my little pretend SUV look a bit more masculine.

I have thule bars on a skoda octavia and a VW Tiguan. Both have raised roof rails. The rubber on the skoda straps from the footplates that wraps around the rails has disintegrated but the metal strap inside the rubber is still in good nick.
I went for the wingbar edge as it looked neater but I've found you do lose quite a bit of useable length.
I have bought both sets from hyperdrive on sale.
Im picking up a new skoda next month and planning on fitting the same style bars.
Tip - The hyperdrive website sometimes offers you a further discount when you leave the site so don't buy straight away.
So ended up getting the Thule Evo Wing Bar (in black to match my black roof rails - white car) and the snowboard/ski attachment
