Got an a4 wagon, want to get roof bars on it.
Thoughts on Thule, prorack, Yakima? I think I want the flush ones rather than overhang. It ui rally will be for snowboards/skis

I've found Whispbar to be the quietest. Some roof racks can be quite noisy especially on the open road.
So whispbar looks like it’s part of Yakima.I think there’s a place down here that stocks rhino, Yakima and Thule

i have them. the bars are fine.
the boxes though have the profile of aeroplane wings. provides some lifting force :)
tesla owners have found that putting roofboxes backwards improves range ...
that's all i know about these horrible things. good luck

Thats because you’ve got it on upside down :)

Been extremely happy with various Thule parts (wingbars, bike racks and roofbox - used a lot over the last couple of years for surfboards\beach\camping\MTB and snowboard\ski mountain visits)

Yeah I think I'm preferring the thule ones at this stage. Woudl be wanting the ski/board rack, may later a bike holder. And if possible just a random tiedown bracket, say if I ever wanted to move a 6' ladder

I found a roofbox more convenient than ski\snowboard carriers (have rented carriers a couple of times but decided to splash out and buy roofbox outright) - IMO the expense was well worth it as it's super useful for many other things.

I have the Thule flush mount ones on my Skoda Yeti. Whilst they are quiet they're not silent so I still remove them and store them in the garage when I don't need them. They're fine around town but there is still a small but audible whistle when driving on the motorway. They only take 15mins to remove and install so its no bother to put them on when I want to take the bikes or kayak out.

I had a small whistle on mine, i incrementally covered various bits of the bars with duct tape and at one point it disappeared. Turned out the rubber bit that the put into the slot underneath the bar was slightly too short and that caused the whistle. Got a new rubber bit and the whistle totally gone.
Had Whispbars previously. This time went with Thule. While they have an aerodynamic profile and arguably better brackets, I have found the Thule a little bit noisier and the split-rubber that fills the top channel keeps having to be pushed so it stays flush (and doesn't make even more noise). I regret not buying Whispbar again.
On the option for a curved or sticky-out ends, it depends on the car, look you want, and what you are going to carry. I went with the sticky-out model this time which provides more fitting options and about 200mm more width to play with.
We just leave ours on. Can't identify any discernible difference to fuel use, and to be a bit shallow, looks cooler on our SUV.
+1 for a roof box. One of the best car accessories I have ever purchased. Got ours from Hapro in Wellington.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
