During lockdown I tore up my dash to see what I can "upgrade".

Due to not wanting to lose all the fancy camera functions i found 2 options.

1 solder Bluetooth into the DIN

2 hook up Bluetooth to fm modulator and plug the Din fm aerial into the modulator

I chose the latter. Still waiting for the parts to arrive from China.

I'll try to find a post for option 1. I could not get into my din as its extremely sophisticated so I chose option 2.

Costs about NZ 40 but slow still waiting

David321:

1 - There is a button with a picture of a person sitting with an arrow going over his head, I have no idea what it does.

I know absolutely nothing about Nissans, but my guesses are as follows:

  • Press the button to recline the seat/s
  • Press the button if the front passenger seat is reclined or folded, to disable the passenger airbag (eg. if you had the seat folded flat for large cargo)
  • Press the button to allow you to remove or fold the headrests (eg. it unlocks them)

They are just guesses. Nissan does have an air setting that goes over the front seats to reach the back. Some buttons have more airflow lines.

See if you can swap out only the radio part and leave the screen somehow connected to the cameras…

If your vehicle is like my Tiida, the camera voltage isn’t compatible with NZ compatible head units (that’s what my dealer told me), so leaving the reverse camera and kerb cam to the factory screen should be the best compromise…mine now has a blank in place of the screen but the new head unit does have support for 2 cameras but the lines don’t move while reversing and it’s so hard to activate the kerb cam, not to mention the lines on the kerb cam don’t make sense

Then the radio part can be replaced with any head unit with Apple Carplay and Android Auto and you’re all set!

I replaced the head unit on my Nissan because I had found band expanders were crap.  However, while I now have excellent radio, I have lost the useful lines on the reversing camera, and the picture on the reversing camera looks saturated and mushy.  If you replace the head unit, you'll likely lose updatable maps too.  OK, yes, my head was cheap, and maybe expensive ones with android or istuff work better.  Look into it deeply and make sure you'll get all that you want.

On my previous car, I stuck stickers on the Japanese-language buttons, which was quite a lot cheaper. And used a Garmin for maps.
