Senecio: I grew up on the Gold Coast and in the late 1990's and early 2000's the Queensland Police Service ran what was titled Operation D.R.A.G. It was started by 6 officers without the official support of the hierarchy and done completely without taxpayer or government funding. It ran from the then no longer used Surfers Paradise raceway and was a huge success. They took two decommissioned highway patrol cars and with the help of the local TAFE college built them into 10-11sec cars with full police signage and operating lights. Not only you could race against your mates off street you could race against the police, instead of racing away from them!

It ran for a number of years but was eventually shut down as the land become too valuable for development with the Gold Coast expanding exponentially. For the time that it ran it was very effective at keeping the hoons off the public roads.

An excellent idea.

The HSE and Red Tape is whats stopping a skid pad opening anywhere - noone wants their Name/Property on the line if something happens. I think it's probably part of why the Council does stupid shit like waste Money making little Humps in the Cul-De-Sac of Works Rd to appease the Tax Payer and make it look like they are doing something (while not taking on any responsibility like running a proper Facility). The rest of Works Road is really wide and smooth as Silk with more than enough room to do Doughnuts anywhere along it.

As someone else so correctly spelt it, the YOOF of today are self entitled wanteverythingfornothing little pricks and they flit between the same 2 or 3 places if the Cops actually decide to show up. If they went that little bit further out of town to where houses are miles apart, there would be much less of a problem (obviously).
