Don't know I'm afraid but the crack occured when testing with the failed and siezed clutch still installed. I will be asking for them to enquire with Audi to see if it was a bung part in the first place, but due to the issues around part supply and length of time on the hoist (meaning they where down from 4 to 3 hoists therefore less work they could do) I was willing to agree to this... it should only be about $300 from a bill of close to $10K anyway.
If the part had a failure already then I would expect Audi to pick up the tab as part supplier... but that would be between the mechanic and audi to argue over.

Its a 2010 B8 model Audi S4 in sedan style so carries the 3.0l v6 supercharged TFSI with 245Kw via the Audi AWD system (hence the large costs to just check the clutch itself as you have to pull the front hubs off etc.) paired to a 6sp manual gearbox.
The car is pretty immense and very rapid when you really tank it off the line. I prefered my 2009 BMW 550i (juicy v8 and it was fully specced) but I sold that as it sat on the driveway as I commute by ebike to the office, but I am happy driving the missus' car as and when I need to as the Audi is hers.
