Join a Kia owner forum (there's bound to be one in NZ and/or Australia). If it's a common fault on your model someone (or even many people) is/are bound to have posted about it. Someone may even have had it fixed out of warranty. This is useful ammo to have when stating your case...

This forum suggests head units on the 2017 Cerato are prone to repeated failure even after replacement.

I'd be going them for CGA replacement - not good enough that it fails at any time - it's an integral part of the vehicle (you can't just replace it with a 3rd party unit). Maybe when the car is 20 years old and about to hit the knackers yard, but a 5-year-old car with less than 10k a year on it is (IMO) unacceptable.

Is the head unit completely dead? Apparently the rear usb charge socket if there is one is on the same fuse. Does that work?
Things might have changed but I remember when workshops removed radios and sent them to electronic repairers rather than get their greasy fingers involved.

gcorgnet:

It's essentially a second car so it's got about 45,000k, something like that..

There's a few settings available on the dash itself but the infotainment means I lose all sound (radio, mp3, etc..) as well as reverse camera. That's about it, nothing else critical

Yeah in that case I'd definitely go after them for the replacement unit. I wouldn't consider it reasonable that it has already died, critical or not!
