vexxxboy: Experts have previously warned electric vehicles are being written off after minor bumps because of the cost and complexity of fixing their batteries. there is no test to find out if the battery cells are damaged.

I think this is more FUD then truth to be honest. It'll be better to cite your sources. From what I can see like anything there are a few sources saying that a small bump can write off an EV which isn't fully true. There are tests that can be done on the battery pack to determine if things are damaged (modern battery management systems do just that) so the "no test" part is not entirely true either. For most vehicles the BMS shows per cell measurements which can determine damaged cells.

KrazyKid:

Just insured my 51KW MG4 with FMG - $975.

When I shopped around the rates ranged up to $1800 so defintely worth trying a few places.
As usual the cost does change a with excess levels and driver age/history so YMMV.

Congratulations - it's a nice car to drive and the range is definitely a step up from my old 24KW leaf.

@KrazyKid: I had a feeling my premium for the same model of car with the same company was around the same as yours, but I've just checked and... it's an identical $975! Bit of a coincidence as I assume there will be other variables that are different (eg location).

We also insure with FMG (superior private vehicle policy) for our EV6 (up to $100K) with free glass and $500 excess.  Has just renewed last week and new amount is $1192 - our total insurance package has gone up by about 25% cf last year (haven't checked what the specific car was last year.)  We had been with AMI for a number of years but they p...ed me off big time so I looked around and settled on FMG (we have a lifestyle block) - the process was an absolute pleasure with a specific account manager based in Palm Nth that I can call directly if I have any issues (although online tools etc are really good as well).  I know there are some areas that they will not insure in, but not sure where - so worth calling if you are interested.

We’ve got our Model 3 SR+ with AA Insurance, mainly because they had our other car, house and contents insurance. Kept the $400 excess, glass cover (but the roof glass has an excess) and rental car, was about $1,600 per annum.

AA allow for the highest excess which makes them the cheapest I found when comparing
