Batman:

where are the fast chargers located between Christchurch and Dunedin if anyone knows?

i think i mentioned when i put into google it doesn't tell you the speed, it clogs up with tonnes of 22, 50 and 75kW chargers and i can't find the faster one.

*edit oh - yes i recall now. plug share

but perhaps someone can still give my wife a hint

There is a 150kW ChargeNet charger in Orari.
Z Timaru has a couple of 200kW chargers.
BP Timaru has 75kW charger.
Tesla chargers in Timaru are also open to all EVs.
Couple of 120kW ChargeNet chargers down by Scott’s brewery by the harbour in Oamaru.
Ashburton BP has some 150kW chargers.
Think the rest south of Oamaru are all 50kW, including Dunedin.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Nothing wrong with a 75kW charger - that'll get you going pretty quick.

In my car (MG4), 50kW would get me about 350km of range per hour, so a 15 minute stop gets me nearly 90km. 75kW gets me about 135km in 15 minutes.

Last road trip we did (Paeroa to Greytown and back) we used the hypercharger in Taupo once, a Chargenet at New World in Fielding (50kW) then a couple of BP, which I think are 75kW. All stops coincided with needing a toilet break and a bite to eat. By the time we'd done that, there was enough Juice in the car, plus some, to get to the next stop.

Z's are in pretty convenient locations too, though apparently there is an issue between their Redphase chargers and MG4s, which Z says they are going to fix by January in their app (?!) so I haven't tried the Z chargers. I might give one a go on my way home at some point - there is one in Ngatea.

@morrisk I posted about it here if you like. Check the comments for a how-to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NZEVOwners/permalink/3531296447137644/

@Batman So the Chargenet fob is something you buy (it's cheap) but it's just a wee RFID fob that you keep in your car. Following the directions above you can add it to your charge apps. Openloop down south isn't needed, it'll just be more Chargenet (the biggest one), Z, BP and Meridian Zero.

I found down south Chargenet is king still.

Thanks - have used my son's Android phone and successfully added the ChargeNet fob to the Z app. Have also done this with the BP app.

Will be travelling next week and using the Z charger at Waiouru so will be able to check it all works at least at Z.
