Any chance of sharing photos of the Dayton and BF Goodrichs? Or the model?

Probably the thread pattern is different, thus causing the different "feel" when driving.

Since the shop is willing to swap, find out more from them what's on the table...hopefully they can solve your problem

Ge0rge:
They're too light and feel weak and weird. Not solid and reliable like our previous tyres.
They feel too light or too small for our car.
Our car feels lower to the ground as well.

If the old tyres and the new tyres have the same size markings on them, then it is very uikely that the ride height of the vehicle will have changed.

What do you mean by "light and feel weak"? That's an odd description for tyres. Is the vehicle under or over steering?

Do you remember what the wear pattern looked like on the old tyres? I'm definitely inclined to agree with Bung that the pressures may not be correct, or perhaps that the pressures in the old tyres wasn't correct and the new ones are, thus feeling different to drive.

Thanks so much :)πŸ™πŸ½πŸΎ
I'm not sure what under or over steering feels like. We haven't had this before.
It's bizarre it feels like the new tyres aren't heavy enough or solid enough. They feel alot lighter than our previous ones, too light.
Turning is like ... you're turning but there's not enough weight and size there. I'm not sure how else to describe it.
It's like there's no one home in the front of the car. It's empty feeling and too light.

I'll definitely check if the tyres pressure in our old tyres was right, and the new ones.

What's the wear pattern and how would that effect this? I've still got one of our Daytons from the front.
Would I see it on that or would I have needed to see it on both tyres?

maclongshanks: Just tried to edit my original post but can't see how to do that. Can we not edit here?

There's a time limit on it, to prevent "stealth edits". You get a few minutes to correct typos.

Ah damn. Thanks :)πŸ™πŸ½πŸΎ

Absolutely. Would photos be better or the models?

The tyres are

Both 195/R6016 89H
Both directional

Dayton DT30

BF Goodrich Advantage Touring

I can't post the links as I'm a noob. Sorry about that :)

Yeah but it's very bad 'different', not just different.
I'd like to find out what our other options are as well, if or how we could get a refund, and whether we could find a way of selling the Goodrichs if we have to.
I don't feel confident about getting tyres from the company now after this. We may have to but I want to find out as much as I can about other options too.

We're a few hours away from the nearest towns too, and 5 and 6 hours from AK and Wgtn. Wondering if that could be a factor with selling them.
The shops here didn't have our size in and had to order it, it doesn't sound like a common size here.
It would depend how much it costs and how do able it is to send them out of town πŸ™πŸ½πŸΎ

Have you been supplied with some cheap knock-off tyres?

Nothing would surprise me these days.

I'm honestly wondering about that. They felt like crap right from driving out of the shop and still do 2 weeks later after driving every day.
From when I first saw them on they looked cheap and not good quality to me. And still look like that.
I'm no expert at all but my instinctual reaction seeing them was they don't look as good a quality as the brand is normally, and for the price. $280 a tyre.

What is knock off? :D I've heard the expression but don't know the meaning :D

With a quick search it looks like knock-off tyres are not uncommon and have characteristics you describe... see here:

Edit: Knock-off I guess means fake or copy.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Chills:

The point I'm making is that the tyres they've just put on aren't from the manufacturer. Sure the manufacturer will recommend the PSI the vehicles tyres should be on, but different tyres, different types of tyres etc. Cheaper tyres and more expensive tyres. Referring to the side wall of the actual tyre is more accurate. Unneeded hostility, just a recommendation.

Respectfully disagree. They have a maximum pressure on them, but the operating pressure is vehicle specific, hence looking inside the door.

i honestly don't see how they can be THAT different. Different sure, but from what you had to what you got it shouldn't be night and day even from a worn tyre to a new one.

Oh wow. I didn't know they even existed. That's good to know.
We got ours from a local tyre shop tho. Advantage Tyres. I guess they probably aren't fakes then? Or could something really weird have happened?
The tyres look legit with all the things suggested to check.

Can I get in any trouble here using names of businesses etc if I say something potentially less than favourable?
I'll try to put this .... less directly in case.
I'm wondering if there could be some issues with this particular range of tyres.
I don't know for sure yet but they could be made specially for the Advantage company.
The tyres are the BF Goodrich Advantage range.

Advantage have said they are promoting them specifically.
Wondering if this could be a new range and specific to Advantage. Maybe they're not as good as the usual BF Goodrichs...?
I've been smelling a potential rat from the beginning of this.

Wondering if somehow they've knocked the Wheel Alignment way out.

If the steering feels light and vague compared to what it was, it could be an alignment issue.

You still have 2 of the original tyres on the back. They could be swapped with the front to see if it is the tyres making the difference.

This is one of those situations thats hard to get right, i used to work in the tyre industry and have experienced various well known brand of tyres be noisy. Its even harder to get right as some cars will be worse than others with a particular tyre.

BF Goodrich in my experience has not had good results for noise, same with GT Radial's, firestone have been poor as well.

Ive had good experience with Hankook in the past personally, but im also reluctant to suggest you go out and get these as each car can behave differently.

Where did you get the tyres put on and did they do alignment? A place like carters or tonys tire service (do they still exist?) or is it a smaller lesser-known shop?

Tony's still exists, but it got bought out by Bridgestone in 2008, so their tyre range might be skewed towards Bridgestone brands,
