2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid - Poor automatic lights. Dips... eventually. Got flashed by other drivers regularly enough that I don't even use the Auto setting anymore

That sounds like my exact problem as essentially the same model, but 2024 model. Possibly confirms that it is more an issue with the cars tech.

Also a Model 3 owner but mine is from the period before they added the matrix headlights. Initially it was very shit at dipping the lights and didn't seem to care about cars that would appear on a side road at an intersection. Then it received an update around two years ago that actually made them very good at detecting vehicles and dipping appropriately for vehicles it's approaching.

Today, the only issue I have with them is that usually dip the headlights for distant street lights at an approaching town or intersection many km's in advance, as if it thinks they look like an approaching vehicle. It's also not very courteous towards vehicles travelling the same direction that are more than few hundred km's ahead and will try highbeam them.

Kia Seltos EX - Auto high beam headlights work 50% of the time to dip down to oncoming traffic. I have been blinded by angry truck drivers and oncoming cars rightly so after the seltos fails to dip down. The automatic high beam function also needs to be switched ON each time you get in the car so I don't bother using it anymore.

Same here.

My RAV4 Hybrid was a 2022 model and also had this issue - I just turned it off in the end as it was painful and embarrassing.

My new BYD isn't much better to be fair. There's more at play there though as there are a few things I don't like about that car.

Guessing the Lexus also has the same issue, being owned by the same company, and exhibits exactly the same issue. I wonder if it can be improved on with future software updates.

Ahahahaha, The only time you get a software update on a toyota is when they are made to offer one as part of a recall.

I asked for a software update when I was getting mine serviced one year - they effectively told me that there would be an exorbitant cost and that I'd need to speak to the Lease company as they pay for the servicing.

I declined

2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid
Auto high beam is useless, turned it off.
Same reasons others have mentioned.
