I always use my old swipe eftpos card in the selfpayment machines as skimmers exist and the swipe eftpos card is the easiest to replace and I dont lose out on shopping online or have to update cards with sites if it gets compromised. Sure, I lose out on the true rewards, but until they seperate the chip and mag stripe slots out so that you can use the chip without the stripe going anywhere near the machine, I will rather not risk it. ATMs need to do the same thing too since they are a prime candidate for getting skimmed.

I'm the opposite. If any of my cards were to be compromised I would prefer it be my credit card. That's not my money and there is usually better protection offered from credit card providers. If your Eftpos card is compromised and someone starts to make withdrawals you will never see that money again.

Yes you do, the banks security failed and you get reimbursed. You just have to not have contributed to the loss.

The account that I have there has a small amount in it, and I can get that card replaced any weekend by walking into a branch with ID.

I did remove the mag stripe from my debit card as its useless these days, but then I found that the card would not go into an ATM, seems that a small amount of it needs to be there to trigger the flap to let the card in.

I dont know if ASB have fixed the security hole that their ATMs allow access to all suffixes rather than limiting you to the accounts set up as check and savings buttons. I complained about that a while back but have not tried using my 50 of 51 suffix at an ATM, or know if it would let you get to those with just a clone of the mag stripe and pin.

I wonder if Z-Business fuel cards can be used at U-Go stations?

I just called Z Business, and the answer is no, with no plans at this time. Since we are a 10k a month client and it's right by our Ak premises, I advised them this may be the time we move the Cardsmart. She thanked me for the feedback and said she would pass it on.

This is not surprising, the low cost retailers are killing the big 4 in Christchurch at least. We just switched our work account (circa $12k a month) to NPD as the rates are around 25% cheaper than BP/Z who we were with. Savings of $3k plus a month are just too good to pass up, add on the fact the NPD network is so strong in the south (35 stations in Canterbury alone).

Mobil/Z/BP must be hating the fact if its not NPD with the cheapest its then Gull or Waitomo or even Tasman Fuels. Competition was long overdue and I still can't get over the fact that some people still fill up at the big 4 when the compeition is easily 25-30c a litre cheaper everyday (in Christchurch at least).

Just did a pointless count up for Christchurch city off Gaspy.

Low cost:

NPD = 17, Gull = 6, Waitomo = 4, Allied = 4, Tasman = 3 Total = 34 plus throw in 2 PnS stores a RDP and Mckeown = 38

High cost:

Z Energy = 18, Mobil = 12, BP = 11, Challange = 10, Caltex = 7 Total = 58

The U-GO branding could be to phase the Caltex brand out, as Z currently has to pay Chevron for the licence since they brought Caltex NZ in 2015, and Ampol and Chevron have had a bumpy history in Australia around the Caltex brand, so much so that they split and rebranded as Ampol. I believe they renewed the agreement in NZ until 2027, so maybe positioning a low-cost model to rebrand Caltex while trying to break into the low-cost market that they are missing out on with their traditionally high fuel prices.

No doubt they will still shaft consumers in areas with low competition, no matter what Z brand is involved.

Yeah - its interesting…..

Recently moved to Kaiapoi from Kumeu.

My model now is $25 at Caltex as closer, but if I know I am out and about, it’s NPD or McKeown and say $60 ish…

Gaspy is very handy.

In Kumeu generally topped up at Pak n Save at Westgate.

This is what I would do when the light was on and I was on the expensive side of the bridge. Just enough to see me back to the other side and then fill it where it was cheaper. Not sure it was always worth the time but when there was a 30c variance I sure as hell was not going to get 50-60l of it.

I have to say the U-Go in Hillsborough has been consistently cheap, shame about no tyre air pump though.

The new U-Go in Mairangi Bay mentioned when I started this thread has now been open two or three weeks. My prediction in the OP that it might not be competitively priced has proved, so far, to be completely wrong. Great pricing - according to Gaspy currently easily the cheapest in a 5km radius and 11 cents/litre cheaper than the next cheapest - Gull in Greville Road.
