Thanks guys :)πŸΎπŸ™πŸ½

I don't really like putting potentially lower quality parts on it if we don't have to. If we can afford the better ones we go with them. With these there's not enough of a difference in price to warrant going with a cheaper one than the ones we've been given prices for.

It also depends if it really is ok to put different brands of coils on, if there are definitely no potential ill effects from that, including down the line. Same with the just replacing one spark plug, if there are really no consequences from having different brands on. And a brand new one on with 3 20 year old ones. I'm trying to find out but getting different answers from different people, as happens.

We don't have to take the manifold off to get to the 4th coil and plug thankfully :) But we do if we do need to put all new spark plugs in, or test the other coils.

We've been cursing the designers too, we haven't had a car with the manifold there before. They weren't thinking about people's money situations when they did that!

Hope it wasn't too expensive for you :)πŸŒΈπŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½

@Bung

Thank you :)🐾 Yeah I checked with a Nissan parts department and they said the plugs are likely to be the originals. Denso iridiums are what they come with. Our car had done 91 or 92,000 kms when we bought it so they could be originals, 20 years old now. Quite buzzy to find that out as they're either the most expensive or one of the most for spark plugs. We've been driving around on swanky spark plugs all this time and didn't know :D

But now the question of whether to replace them with those or the NGKs or Bosch that have also been matched to it. The NGKs are half the price. I'm not sure about the Bosch. It's a personal taste thing too. I like to find what feels like it suits it, if we can afford them. The car has vibes of its own, its particular about what it likes and doesn't like :) It does seem to like the most expensive parts lol but we may not always be able to get it what it wants :D🌸

They were thinking that it would outlast the warranty period where it would cost them to look at them.

I would always change all the plugs, as sods law says that fix one and another will go since in theory they are all the same age, unless someone has done the accessible one only in the past.

Presuming that only coils on cylinders 2&3 are behind the inlet manifold, if I was you I would be considering something along the following;

  • replacing all spark plugs (NGK would be my pick).
  • replacing coils for cylinders 2-3 with good quality coils
  • retaining the used coils from cylinders 2-3 as potential spares in case a coil on cylinders 1 or 4 fails.

If you don't have the $ to do the above right now, I don't see any immediate harm in driving your car as it is while you save for it, which will enable you to give back the car you have loaned from a friend.

The manifold crosses over the engine on an angle. Only #4 coil is accessible with the manifold in place.

Thanks guys πŸΎπŸ™πŸ½ Sorry I couldn't reply sooner 🐾🌸

I'd have to check but I think Bung might be right about number 4 being the only one outside the manifold. I didn't say but we had to give the new coil and plug that was used to test it back, it was just to test it. We can't drive in the meantime. But we're working on it.
