Another useful weapon in the war against yobbs, both young and old! As with any bylaw its giving the police the resource to restrict certain actions, its not a "every car will be treated the same" situation, more an "officers discretion" case. This bylaw adds another option.

I fully support the ban and have made a submission in support.

+1 for ban!

[sarcasm mode]
Then also please introduce another ban: no more then 10 people on intersection facing opposite direction to each other. because sometimes so confusing to give way to so many people and feel frustration!!! drives me nuts.

Then another ban law, which would prohibit to walk more then 2 people in line; impossible to overtake 4 pacific persons on the same walk side in Auckland's CBD, drives me nuts again.
[/sarcasm mode]

Then maybe another "stupid" law?! if car has current warrant + sounds loud enough to get warrant, why should it be banned? if I don't have loud music on and no loud exhaust system and I'm lost on the inner road or looking for specific sign and could not see it and I drive again, again, again and again around the street? should I be stooped by police man and get a fine to be lost? :(

Asmodeus: lol so you're not going to be allowed to drive down the same street in the same hour? These are main roads, highways and busy city streets. Sounds like the people who move into apartments in the city and then complain about the traffic noise thing all over again. It's like the morons who move to the country and complain about sheep bleating and roosters; jerkoffs who move in next to the speedway and complain about car noise....

I'm not a "boy racer" or a "cruiser" but this sounds like a load of codswallop dreamed up by some stifled old hand-wringing farts to me. Sure if they are impeding traffic or exceeding the noise level but just driving around? pfft

Oooh no, those whippersnappers in their racing cars with their boom boxes and fandangled lights. Ban them, ban them!

Have you been in central ChCh lately on a Friday or Saturday night???

There are many businesses that have been there for a loooot longer than boy racers and have to put up with twats with drainpipe exhausts constantly driving past revving the motors and using their stupid blow off valves which they all seem to insist on venting to atmosphere when it isn't necessary.

Why should they have to put up with it?

This group of "car enthusiasts" have no one to blame but themselves.

Totally agree, as a Council worker myself you should see the amount of complaints by people who actually pay rates and deserve to be able to sleep at night and be confident thier children can safely walk to thier friends house or what not make you would see how bad this problem is, some of these idiots drown out the sound of my TV and my house is about 20 metres from the road!!!!

got no sympathy for them whatsoever warm up the car crusher I say....

lol as Councils are needing to increase revenue by way of business and investment rather than burdening an already over burdened ratepayer I think that is very much a possibility :-)

wellygary: Simply driving up and down a street won't get you pinged under this proposal

It is quite specific

Cruising is defined in the Land Transport Act 1998 as driving repeatedly in the same direction over the same section of a road in a motor vehicle in a manner that?
(a) draws attention to the power or sound of the engine of the motor vehicle being driven; or
(b )creates a convoy that?
(i)is formed otherwise than in trade; and
(ii)impedes traffic flow

i don't think a,b,i,ii need to be done as a whole. i think cruising could be only (a)(drawing attention to vehicle) or only (b) and so on. (i) implies that businesses are allowed to cruise but not non-businesses.

(i) is to allow boobs on bikes to continue.

Can't you and Paul get together and deploy the VF black helicopters to sort them out?
