At this point it's 50/50 whether we get the SR version of the Y. There is evidence that points to both arguments being correct. If the SR version did come to NZ and it qualified for the rebate then it would be an instant hit...but it would cannibalise Model 3 sales.

Tesla's price rises are limited to the US factory so far. Since ours come from China we (and the other international markets) haven't been affected by this. The US increases may be because they're having to import parts (and in some cases, entire packs) from China to keep up with demand in the US, so there's extra expenses from shipping and the tariffs the US has on goods from China.

I'm not sure it will be available at launch but it will be sold here.

But I am pretty convinced it'll be sold at launch, and at $76,900, potentially from this friday

Yes, all our cars since the start of the year have been made in Shanghai.

S/X are still going to be made in USA but there are none of those at the moment.

Being certified in Australia is no guarantee. The Model 3 was certified in Australia with towing capacities which led people to believe that Tesla would offer a tow package. They also certified the LR RWD. Neither of these configurations have been sold in Australia or here. While the manual has the SR details, the Tesla.com Model Y info page still only lists the Long Range and Performance details.

This is why I say it's a 50/50 chance the SR will be here...but here's hoping it does 🤞🏻

I'm sure hoping you're right on all this in both availability (even if delayed) and cost, but if that's the price and they keep white as the default colour I'd have to break the promise I made to myself that I'd never buy a white car!

Kinda wish I could trade off the 19" wheels for the 18" ones off the standard 3. Apparently, the 19" tyres are close to $1k each - is that for real?! For a relatively affordable car that that's silly price for ongoing costs. (Did wonder if an option may be to swap wheels with someone ordering a SR 3.) The other extra cost to factor into account is insurance, of course; these costs do certainly ut a decent dent into savings made from not buying petrol, but TBH this wouldn't be a purchase I would make to save money!

No idea on the cost of the 19s

The 18s are $400-500 each, the 20s are $1k or so

I got a set of hancook 18s for $1170 fitted, seem decent so far.

As for insurance - AMP are doing decent numbers now, $1150 for my perf vs $2k from Vero, and basically the same company.

I dont think thats bad for a car of the value and performance

Hertz just bought about a quarter of the global supply of SR+ ..

Tesla will get Berlin online (tho not ramped) before we see any actual Y's on the road, and Shanghai is already making a lot more Y, so I dont think they would mind...!

Given the many reported issues with the quality of US cars (panel fit, leaking roofs etc), I'm glad the NZ models are sourced from China.

I recall this from last year:

Tesla’s made-in-China cars are leading the market when it comes to quality, according to a new survey.

All while Tesla’s US-made vehicles are scoring the lowest for quality.

As we reported earlier this year, Tesla ranked lowest on J.D. Power 2020 quality study, with 250 problems per 100 cars.

The quality survey was based on roughly 1,250 Tesla owners and the vast majority of respondents own a Model 3.

In a surprising turn of events, a similar survey produced in China shows that Tesla is leading the market on quality with its Model 3 vehicles produced at Gigafactory Shanghai.

I had to correct VedaPrime on twitter, they never have been 400v, the system is a 400v system but the pack nominal voltage is 360v and always has been (this is obvious if you have used one on chargenets chargers etc).

Theres a few pack sizes out there tho, and our LR 3's are likely to start getting the 82kwh pack now.

The SR model 3 should have a bit of an upgrade to 62kwh also, 10% more range.

A repair hub (Wishful thinking) in Rotorua would seal the deal for me.

A mobile mech based there is also no brainer due to it's strategic location. Can quickly responce to the demand in the Hamilton, Taupo, Tauranga, & New Plymouth regions.
