Any word, he says asking our in-depth Tesla watchers (eg, @RobDickinson; @Obraik) in particular, as to news/discussion/gossip on the release of the Y here or in Aus? Ta.
It'll happen 'soon' (tm)

I doubt that. I think AUS will get the upper hand.
Oh and by the way there is a "Unicorn" version of the Model 3. Basically one shipment in NZ, that has 5.6sec, 60kw battery, steering wheel heating, rear seats heated all in one package. So if that's you, rejoice. I will still keep loving my 55kwh battery and the 5.6sec (as corny as it sounds but 6.1 sec would have been :-( for me. The acceleration really puts a smile on my face every time).
Anything with a manufactured date of Nov 2nd or on has the slower acceleration
Tesla NZ is a subsidiary of Tesla AU. Whatever AU gets, NZ gets too. As well as that, the ships that deliver the vehicles to NZ and AU visit both. So when orders open for the Y in AU, they'll open for us here in NZ as well.
This isn't the first "unicorn version" of the Model 3. In 2019 it was the Long Range Performance model that had the hardware of the Long Range but the software of the Performance model

Yep we'll get the same teslas at the same time as Oz, the certification/crash testing etc of the vehicles is done in Oz anyhow, theres almost no additional work or effort to sell them here.
BTW the Perf stealth has the perf rear motor which the long range cars dont have (since before we started to get 3's) so there are hardware differences.

This is a result of a larger/different battery or something else?
lower power more efficient motor, there are cars with the larger 60kwh pack with the same acceleration as before (at least thats whats suspected).
So there is a couple months production of 'SR+' cars with the 60kwh pack and 5.6s 0-100 ((roughly sept/oct cars), after that they will be slower.
The reliability observation is based on the US production cars which may not be relevant to the ones we are getting from China. The article also says the Model 3 was a lot better reliability wise than the other models. One also needs to look at how reliability was measured to know how much importance to place on the result.
Interesting observations about Tesla's and their owners. I wonder what Tesla owners think about this comment.
All the Tesla owners I know love their Teslas. Unconscionably so. Unreasonably so.
And to be clear they weren’t really car people before. In fact, they are people I’d describe as car agnostic but strongly opinionated.

Consumer Reports in the US considers paint defects and panel issues in their reliability score. Personally, while they are issues, I'd consider them Quality issues. To me, Reliability issues are those that leave you stranded or are an issue that means part of the vehicle isn't working, aka mechanical issues.
I haven't had any mechanical issues on my Model 3 in the almost two years I've now had it. I did have a few small quality issues (internal trim fitment and rattles) when I reveived it in 2019 but Tesla resolved that with mobile service - they fixed it in my work car park.
FWIW, Consumer Reports also has Tesla topping their Customer Satisfaction surveys. Personally, I'd rather see what Consumer NZ has to say. I remember doing a survey from them earlier this year in regards to the experience with my vehicle (wasn't Tesla specific).

Feel free to ignore Consumer Reports completely , absolutely valueless drivel.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Or JD power.
“Tesla did not allow its vehicle owners to be surveyed, so it did not technically meet J.D. Power’s ranking criteria, but the study leaders independently obtained enough data to give the brand a score.”
hmm how ...
