Obraik:

Consumer Reports in the US considers paint defects and panel issues in their reliability score. Personally, while they are issues, I'd consider them Quality issues. To me, Reliability issues are those that leave you stranded or are an issue that means part of the vehicle isn't working, aka mechanical issues.

I haven't had any mechanical issues on my Model 3 in the almost two years I've now had it. I did have a few small quality issues (internal trim fitment and rattles) when I reveived it in 2019 but Tesla resolved that with mobile service - they fixed it in my work car park.

FWIW, Consumer Reports also has Tesla topping their Customer Satisfaction surveys. Personally, I'd rather see what Consumer NZ has to say. I remember doing a survey from them earlier this year in regards to the experience with my vehicle (wasn't Tesla specific).

Yep, I tend to agree. Hence the comment I made about knowing how reliability was measured.

I think I took part in the same Consumer survey. Having seen the results of even Consumer NZ reports I must admit they still need to be used along side other information.

Any word, he says asking our in-depth Tesla watchers (eg, RobDickinson; Obraik) in particular, as to news/discussion/gossip on the release of the Y here or in Aus? Ta.

Still seems to be nothing more on the local release of the Y; this recent Aus article indicates not to expect anything this year and refers to 'a launch in the first half of 2022', (ie, they really don't have a clue)...

BTW, what sized deposit is required when ordering a Tesla, and when does the remainder need to be paid - on pick-up or well prior?

Saw the same article. Def looks like 2022.

$200 deposit and payment before delivery appointment was my experience (two weeks out from collection in my case).

Yep still $200 non refundable deposit. That locks in the price at the time of order (tho you'll get any reductions).

Full payment is before you take delivery but usually a week or so.

I didn't see it in the first couple of pages of this thread and I didn't feel like searching all 23. The CHAdeMO adapter here - does this work with the Model 3? It isn't clear.

No it doesn’t work with model 3. If you reread the description it does actually say that. Not sure why you’d need it though.

Well, there are other articles that say that there is a CHAdeMO adapter for the Model 3. As to why you'd need it ... well, not everywhere I want to go has a Tesla supercharger nearby?

Can charge a model 3 at most EV charge locations in NZ. If it’s recent M3 should be CCS 2. Haven’t got a whole lot of experience up and down the country but that’s been my experience. Others will have a better feel. Don’t think you’ll need the adapter. I was looking at it before I purchased the car and glad I didn’t. Don’t need it.

Use a better route planner and put the car model in and look at what’s available, Think there will be plenty of locations.

Yeah, just noticed that myself. So no, don't need CHAdeMO. :-)

Extra cables/adapters you might want in the car :

https://www.evseadapters.com/products/european-type-2-iec-ev-charging-cable/

This is for the free AC chargers dotted about by North Power / Vector

https://www.evseadapters.com/products/european-cee-16a-2p-e-blue-commando-caravan-mains-adapter-for-tesla-model-s-x-3-gen-2/

This is if you go camping, you can plug into the blue 16amp sockets with the cars portable charger .. just don't try pulling 16amps most camp grounds limit you to 5 or so :-)

Yeah, I'll look at the first one, might come in handy sometimes. It appears as if Tesla supplies two plugs with the included charger unit now, one of which is the second one. I've been using a 16A caravan plug charger for the Leaf for about a year now (including at camp grounds on two road trips to/from Taranaki) and that's generally enough even for a Leaf with dying battery that you want to drive twice a day.

No, the second one they supply is for a 15 amp normal plug socket. Not a blue commando one.

Tesla actually list that blue round one on their nz store afik, what you cant get is a 32amp one

Where is the issue of an official towbar for the Model 3 at in NZ? (As of December 2021).

How about 3rd party ones (specifically re warranty)?
