Started looking at Leafs with a bit more wear and tear for that reason at auction - I'm going to ding the absolute hell out of it with a stroller so getting one in concourse condition is perhaps not worth the time or effort.
jonathan18: Totally get the falling in love with the aesthetics of the EV6 - similarly, I showed my wife one (in matte grey) on a street in Wellington a couple of weeks back, and she was also keen. If it weren’t for the boot size I’d be keen on ordering the long-range basic model for sure…
Instead, I still wait for the release of the Y… And the longer I have to wait the more bile that drains from Musk’s mouth, hence the more reasons that exist for avoiding buying a Tesla.
I had been looking more closely at the Skoda Enyaq, but range and speed of charging do seem to count against it.
As for the Leaf and wheelchairs - as per my own experience, not at all surprised to find it wasn’t a goer, but totally worth checking in-person.
I think I am lost and doomed to have the RAV4 assigned to me for life. My fault I made her a car enthusiast. The Kia EV6 that the Kapiti dealer has I have to admit in a stunning beast. I just have to hurry up and work myself back out of the disabilities I guess.

We finally managed to get up close with the Leaf at the Nissan dealer. Nice looking car but when my wife tried my wheelchair in the boot her response was a series of expletives culminating in "oh hell no". I had to agree with here the boot design is not good and if the chair were to be carries in there the lining of the boot would look very second hand in a very quick time.
Maybe have a look at the MG, then. It's more of an SUV shape so it might be easier (as well as being just a generally better EV).
Tried to setup a test drive of the MG but they only had 2021 models so canned it but I suspect the new model doesn't have a larger boot
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
I've just got my used Japanese import 2020 Leaf. Just wandering if anyone here had some tips for CarPlay:
I knew that the inbuilt GPS would be redundant given it's a Jap Navi Unit. however this is causing issues with GPS location inaccuracy in CarPlay.
It appears that, when using CarPlay, Apple Maps and Google Maps (but not Waze for some reason) default to using the car's reported GPS location rather than the phones.
This obviously causes huge inaccuracies in the reported location. Earlier I was about 500m behind where the car thought I was, and when navigating residential areas with lots of turns, this is a bit of a nightmare.
Anyone know of a workaround? Other than a phone dock, which I'm really not into the idea of when using an essentially new car? Should I talk to the dealer as their advertising of CarPlay essentially made it sound like this solved the navigation issues of having a japanese import.
Torched a bid on a 2020 E+ model that went up on the weekend because it was higher mileage and thought no one might be paying attention because it was Saturday. Needless to say it went for the same price as the ultra-low mileage 2020 E+ units the previous week, which is crazy.
So we'll go back to the plan of trying to pick up a medium-mileage 2020 G but I'll take a 2019 if I can get it cheap enough.

My 2018 Leaf works fine with AA & google maps - would not have thought the 2020 model would be too much different but guess it must be
Mileage is a combustion engine metric and doesn't mean much on a Leaf. Battery Health is the E.V. metric to watch.
People will take low battery degradation over low km's all day long.

disconnect the GPS?
Batman:
disconnect the GPS?
Probably the opposite, reconnect the GPS. Trouble is I think that messes with some other time settings on some LEAFs which expect to be in Japan only. Disconnecting the GPS is a workaround for the other issues, but might be breaking carplay.

I'm just trying to avoid the mileage-related pitfalls where I can - seat bolster wear, screen scratches and underbody corrosion where I get a decent photo of it.
Huge variability though in indicated range for cars with the same mileage, but it's the best I have to go off for estimating battery wear at auction.

IME those are not directly mileage related, Seats relate to how fat the driver was and how they got in and out, and corrosion is just an age thing as we don't have salted roads here to make it worse under certain driving conditions. They get picked up for that in JP and not sent over with rust since they're too expensive to get to a condition that they will comply so if there's nothing there, it will not get much worse here unless its used for a boat or diving or fishing etc which I doubt a leaf ever would be used for.

It will be my problem if I buy one with corrosion once it gets here, as I'm the one who is importing it.
question - does NZ use chemicals on roads that cause corrosion? i keep reading about something called CMA or something like that
esp in the deep south
