Dingbatt:

Where is the issue of an official towbar for the Model 3 at in NZ? (As of December 2021).

How about 3rd party ones (specifically re warranty)?

TOCNZ have got the stealth hitch certified here and shouldnt affect your warranty but its quite expensive.

towbar express etc will fit one thats certified for nz use but could affect warranty if it causes any issues

But this isn't exclusively a Tesla issue: I recall when I was looking to get a towbar installed on my Mazda I hit the same thing - something close to $2k for the Mazda-fitted bar vs $450 from a reputable Wgtn installer but with the proviso that there could be problems making a claim under the warranty. Six years later I'm glad I held onto that additional $1500...

What's the cost of the Towbar Express-fitted towbar for a 3, vs the cost of the legit hitch? (Plus who does the installs for this legit one?) I'd be looking to get one fitted to a Y, if I ever get the chance to actually buy one. I'm not sure my wife's Leaf is the ideal car for even the light towing I currently do!

Towbar express I think is around $500-600 for a fixed one, $1100ish for a removable one.

The stealth hitch is about $2k fitted afik

Maybe is just because I’m interested, but I have noticed a few more white Model 3s in my local area. Most have very new number plates and I assume they are standard range 2wd to qualify for the rebate. I still find it refreshing to be able to get a sedan that is an EV rather than an SUV/crossover. I’m looking forward to being able to compare the M3 with a Polestar 2 in the new year.

Has anybody investigated how much it costs to get a M3 vinyl wrapped?

You're mostly seeing the white ones because that's the absolute cheapest - but most of the other other colours add $1700 to the price (the red is $3300 IIRC) so that compares favourably to getting a vinyl wrap anyway.

Yes, I’m aware of the paint pricing. Black used to be the base price colour. The advantage is that if you want a fresh look, you can change the wrap. Combine that with Tesla’s ability to update the firmware/software and it reduces the need to suffer the depreciation and buy a new vehicle.

My understanding is that the wrap provides slightly better protection from scrapes and redoing a panel is relatively simple. Because of the glass roof the biggest panel doesn’t need to wrapped on the M3.
