They accelerate pretty quickly, pity they don't have the sound to go with a thumping V8 or a sweet 6. 😇

Can you choose an option of the car sound equivalent to this electric machine? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5FD7a-o848

Sorry I couldn't resist.

I guess this RC toy is not stranger than model train sets, if you think about it.

:-)

I'm glad my EV is quiet. I prefer to be in automobile staealth mode. But then I could never afford to drive a V8, so didn't connect with the sounds.

I've never owned nor driven a V8, but, I do appreciate the sound of a V8. I'm sorry, the electric cars at places like Goodwood are very fast, however they just sound like a noisy scalextric model racing car. It doesn't quite work for me.

I hope that NZ drug dealers, errr, I mean motorcycle gangs start buying Harley Livewires

I'd gladly support a freebate to get them off the streets.

What a great thought.

Add the sound of the pod racers from Star Wars Episode I to the list.

My list is short at the moment. The sound of;

A Tie Fighter,

The UFO from Gerry Anderson’s UFO TV series,

George Jetson’s Flying Car, and

KITT.

I fear though, the EU will mandate some pathetically annoying standardised noise that is not offensive to any living thing.

Edit: Oops, apologies for taking this off topic, I thought I was in the the EV general news thread. To be fair though, I’m sure Musk has thought about what noises his cars should make if forced to.

Although it's not official until we see the NZTA registration numbers next month, but in less than a month of deliveries the Model 3 has now surpassed the Kona for the most popular new EV in NZ with 285 known registrations for the year. They seem to be delivering around 15-20 a day at the moment so it will be interesting to see what number it peaks at before it settles down to "BAU" numbers.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised by even this number. In my eyes, I've never really seen NZ as big new car buyers, let alone new cars of this price.

Many people who have never bought a new car before (and never planned to) are stretching to buy the Model 3. I'm one of them. I'd never pay this kind money for a gas guzzler.

Yep I am in that boat. Never bought a new car and never dreamed I would spend 100k on one either. It is such an amazing piece of engineering and tech tho, I have had no regrets.

Yeah, I ran a poll on the NZ Model 3 Facebook group and 50% of the respondents indicated that this was their first new vehicle, while also being significantly more than the used vehicles they had bought in the past. Another 33% responded that this was significantly more than any other new car they had bought before.

I haven’t owned a Tesla for a couple of years now - has the build quality improved?

Absolutely

Absolutely? That's probably taking it a bit far. I have seen 3 model 3's in the flesh in the past 2 weeks, including one in a showroom. They are still extremely average compared to every other car I've seen at 100K (Rough edges in some places, mismatched alignment on panels).

Chances are if you bought any other car at 100K you'd be pretty unhappy. ;)

Most Model 3's are $74k cars, not $100k

The handful of issues people on the Facebook group have posted have been shipping blemishes rather than factory defects.

At 74K I think you'd find most manufacturers put together a higher quality if obviously less technically advanced vehicle.
