Just wait if/when the economy /housing market turns as the current cycle comes to an end. But because it appears the rebate doesn't appear to apply to second owners except used imports, people buying many second hand ones wouldn't get the rebate, and potentially it makes second hand EVs less attractive pricewise, unless they are sold quite a bit cheaper. That must annoy some people who purchased one just before the rebate came in but now want to sell it.

Surely the price of a second hand car is set by what a new one costs? As such if the new price reflects the rebate, then so will the used price. So the rebate is effectively being passed on.
Where this falls down is of there is a shortage of new vehicles which pulls used prices up.

Stop. Tempting. Me. ;)

Really like the way the red Model 3 looks in photos/videos, but never seen one in RL. Wondering if it is really that bright of a red.

I just got mine pure black, including the interior. I may have to investigate how much a pulsing red light for the front would cost.

Anyone selling a model 3 today second hand won't have likely got the rebate, and may have paid more anyway, so the rebate has effectively devalued the second have value of their purchase. So in that case the rebate isn't really being passed on because the owner didn't get it, instead it has been made cheaper by the market and rebate devaluing the current second hand vehicle value, and the current owner effectively is the one taking the financial hit.  Also some EVs cars are cheaper than they would normally be, or used to be, to get them under the 80k cap. So IMO those people who purchased before the rebate are less likely to sell at the moment, which could explain why so few are being sold second hand, when buying new offers far more benefits plus rebate, and existing owners don't want to take a big financial hit due to the rebate being in place. I am not sure how long the clean car rebate will continue for but it does say end March 2022. So many owners maybe waiting until it ends to sell unless they need the cash?

Given how successful the rebate program has been, it seems unlikely that it will not be extended when the full clean car rules legislation comes in. And I understand how people wanting to sell their older EVs might feel - my Leaf is up for sale right now and I don't really expect to get what it's currently up for - but if you're buying a car because you expect to make a pile of money on it when you sell it then, well, I've also got a harbour bridge you might be interested in.

Personally, I’m really not impressed by the Tesla red in the flesh - has none of the depth of Mazda’s various soul reds, especially in direct sunlight. I think Suzuki’s red is nicer, and I’d even choose Toyota’s red ahead of Tesla.

I would love a red car, and would pay a bit more if I was keen on the shade of the model I was buying, but when it comes to Tesla I’m not willing to pay that premium. Rather, I’ve decided to go with blue when I finally get the chance to order a Y. ABW (anything but white) for me!

Then again, I’m aware there’s talk of new colours on the horizon, including the possibility of a new default colour. But I’m also aware that Tesla does encourage so much speculation, given their lack of openness - seems a deliberate ploy to me…

I agree. There needs to be some contrast especially with a black car.

I don't have a Tesla but when I bought a couple of years ago a Black Out version was being offered as a special. Personally I couldn't see why anyone would go bogan want to make their car look that. However it seems plenty of people do judging by the number of "Black Out" models you see about.

The Mazda red is very nice.
