Isn't a brand new Leaf now 30k? Considering the warranty benefits etc you may want to consider that as an option.

Saw that too when looking into it. That is why 2nd hand is also down so much I guess. It is still $30k though, not having that laying around readily.
Can't say I do either, otherwise I wouldn't even be considering this! Good to know though.
Wait for the other brands to land in NZ - the Chinese EVs that are due here by the end of the year.
I just went to Guangzhou, China. 95% of their cars are EVs. 100% of their motorbikes, and even those krusty looking bikes with a cargo compartment at the back were electric.
After seeing and experiencing Chinese EVs in China, I wouldn't hesitant to buy one as they land here.
Any tips or diags on checking the viability of the solar panel in a 2014 Leaf?
I'd be surprised if the panel has lasted this long.
The cover is yellowed. If the panel is viable I might consider cleaning up or replacing the cover.
@Jase2985 Maybe it is a apple bug. A quick google search shows scattered reports of general carplay problems but nothing specifically like what I have - with the phone/car thinking its at location X when in reality it is at location Y. It is difficult to confirm this, because I'd imagine the amount of people with this specific issue (Carplay users, a Leaf imported from Japan to somewhere it wasn't originally sold without dealer support) are quite rare.
@RunningMan that's not the problem I'm having - my issue is the iPhone prioritises the car-supplied GPS coordinates (wrong, because it thinks its in japan) and overrides the on-board GPS. In theory this makes perfect sense - why use the low-gain onboard phone antenna for carplay when you can use a much better, automotive grade antenna instead?
However in this situation (a grey import leaf, no dealer backing, cracked/reverse engineered infotainment firmware so its in english, but the maps still in Japanese - every time I boot up the car it shows me in the middle of Japan somewhere).
Yesterday I drove my car to somewhere that my iPhone had no cellular reception. When I got back to my car, I plugged the phone in. Few minutes later I noticed my phone said the time was 11 am despite it being 3 pm, because the phone uses the GPS / Location to figure out where it is and sets its locale/timezone accordingly. At the time I ignored it thinking no worries, it'll come right once I get reception. After I got home (at this point I'd been in coverage and disconnected from the car for over two hours) the time was still wrong. I had to reboot my phone to fix this.
So it would appear the resolution is a bit more complicated than turning off location services for Google maps and then back on again.
Ah that explains why I couldn't find it. I don't really use FB. But here it is.

Evening all,
Long time lurker, very infrequent poster.
I have a 2012 Leaf with the classic signs of On Board Charger (OBC) failure. It will accept a rapid DC charge but not L1/L2 AC - with two different EVSE charging cables it will start charging for 3 seconds and then stop, with the LeafSpy error codes:
B29C1-23 6C CHARGER EVSE VC-98
and
P3173-00 C0 On Board Charger Sys EVC-236
Since these things are rather pricey new, I'm wondering if they come up often in wrecks and, if so, how could I go about tracking one down? There doesn't seem to be anything on TradeMe at the moment.

I would start getting in touch with your local wreckers and see what they say. There's a parts network they can access I believe, that may help track down what you need.

Nissin King Partsworld and EVs Enhanced are two places that I have seen wrecking/parting both aze0s and ze1s. I'd start by just asking on this auction here

You could also try Japanese Car Parts in Papakura. Their web site allows you to search for a particular make and model. They have a lot of Leaf's. Leaf's also pop up every now and again at Pickapart. Bits are cheap if you don't mind removing them yourself. There is a 2013
leaf at Takanini ATM (possibly too new). Been there since September 4th so might be well picked over by now. You can see on their web site what's been removed but take it with a grain of salt.
You will need an ZE0 leaf (charger moved from the boot to under the hood for the AZE0).
I would ask for pricing on all the ZE0 wrecking leaf's I could find on trade me.
https://trademe.co.nz/a/motors/search?search_string=nissan%20leaf%20wrecking
There seem to be plenty of ZE0 leaf's getting wrecked, and I don't imagine the charger is a partially in demand part.
If you are going to DIY any of this, be aware of the lethal voltage's, and manage appropriately (ensure pack is isolated etc.).
